Appetite question

Does appetite usually decrease during a shed? This is my first beardies, first shed! So kinda curious. He still basks and everything, just not eating as much, and doesnt seem as interested in his rasberries/cucumbers.

I've been soaking him in baths around once a day since i noticed the shed coming on, anything else I should be doing?

Yes, while shedding, Beardies will often stop eating so much and become somewhat lackadaisical. It's very normal, but make sure to keep an eye on their weight!

I got my first beardie around 3 months ago and she's went through 2 full body sheds and quite a few sheds around her mouth/head and legs. From what I noticed is when she's shedding around her mouth or snout she might not eat as much as usual. They also go through growth spurts where they will devour everything and then when the spurts done slow down on eating a little. Then there's also the fact that just like you or me they can get tired of eating the same thing every day so changing it up and feeding them something different definately helps. I noticed there is a few things that she doesn't get tired of and are her favorites such as butternut squash or bell peppers and pretty much any type of worms. But even so I suspect if I just always fed her butternut squash instead of alternating other things in she'd eventually get tired of that too. The baths are good but unless she's pooping in the bath or drinking from it imo you don't have to bath her everyday just because she's shedding. 2 or 3 times a week is fine or when you actually start to see the shed coming off is when a bath can help it separate from the skin.

Peppa and Toothless get very picky when they are coming up to a shed (19 weeks old), and I simply offer more food than they'll eat each per day and remove the leftovers next morning.

If you want to help your hatchling , place some pointy sticks and twigs in the enclosure and maybe a bit of very rough textured bark, he'll rub up on it or scratch against it to shift the shed.
