Has anyone on here had success breeding black soldier fly larvae (phoenix worm, reptiworm, calciworm, etc)? I'm thinking about giving it a whirl. I garden, so the compost would be used, and I figure that I could mickey-mouse a small composter with little more than a 5-gallon bucket, some old garden hose, and a tupperware container or something to catch the mature larvae.

My only question is how to start the whole process. Should I just buy some phoenix worms online and wait for them to turn into flys, or leave the compost outside and the black soldier flies will find their way (I live in MA, if that helps)?

Does the US even have the black soldier flies? Ive seen a few vids on youtube and it seems like it would be very difficult.

They're mainly in the southeastern US, although they occur as far north as zone 6b (which I fall into)

I just set Swordtail's timer for his bath and paused it so I could actually fill his soaking bowl up and he crawled over my phone and canceled the timer 🤣
Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
