Having had to deal with this problem with other pets I have had. I have found a couple of natural solutions to the issue that are pet safe.
I have a sulcata tortoise, so it is overly important that we not use any harmful chemicals anywhere near the house.
Ants hate chalk.. not overly sure why, but they (at least the ants species we have here) will not cross a chalk line. I think it has something to do with the scent trail.
What we do to keep them out of the house when ant season really hits is to draw a white chalk line around all the windows, door frames, and in the case of cages and such around the base of them. With your cricket bin, you could draw a line of chalk on the outside of the bin, towards the bottom.
Started doing this a few years back, and haven't had an ant in the house since.
Also, we have found that they really hate the cleaner Citrus Magic. It kills them on contact, and is in generally pet safe (wouldn't want them licking it up or anything though). We use it outside the house on ant hills as they form. Kills all it touches, and if any survive, they move elsewhere.
