we wanted to get our son a beardie so I started researching and found this site...

I am surprised by the number of women on here! Never realised females were so into reptiles!

Just a thought I had and find it interesting.

Lol... that's funny! Well, I was the one who was freaking out wanting a Beardie and finally convinced my husband to agree to it (although he thinks Falkor is cool, he's still alittle squemish around the worms, lol). Just to let you know that males and females alike can't help but love these little lizards!!! You'll see...

We got one for my son. Its a little 7week old "eureka red" dragon. Its name is "Mushu"
On the car ride home my wife barely wanted to hold the package he was in. Now she's checking in on him multiple times a day....

She will pick it up and hold it but today I stuck it to her arm and she didn't really care for that....lol

Funny you should say that... My youngest ( almost a Manly 17- his words ;)) Shrinks at feeding Lady Annebelle, her Roaches ! I almost died laughing ( when he wasn't home ;)) about that ! I mean, I just pluck them up, into the togo soup container and then once supplemented, in they go ! He just freaks when one of the roaches zips across his Manly wrist ;)... I keep trying to catch a photo of that... but i've worked 21 hours in the last two days.. I will though ;) I'm such a good mom ! :D

lol, I like beardies, but mostly any other reptile I don't like.
I hate crix though, I hate when they touch me, I freak out

We love pictures, do you have one of the baby to post :)

There isn't a reptile I don't like, besides my dragon, I have three snakes and also around 30 tarantulas not including the babies I hatched out.

Dragons have personalties almost like a dog, they like being held and cuddled. They will run around the house taking time to jump on every person who is sitting down just to say hi. I've seen a fair number learn their name though you can't expect them to come when called.
My first dragon would sit on the big dog to get warm or use him as a stepping stool to get on the couch.
Of course this is behavior of adults, babies are prone to being skittish and must be handled daily for optimal human bonding to occur.

OMG! 30 tarantulas?!
I would die!!
The smaller snakes I'm okay with holding for a short time, but no way to the tarantulas!
lol
I'm actually kinda curious though, would you be able to take a few pics of them? I wanna see the babies too :)
I've only seen a tarantula in the petstore for like 5 seconds, it's more terrifying when it's alive right in front of you then it is in a picture.
I'm scared of spiders if you haven't noticed, lol!

I've had reptiles my whole life growing up. I used to bring garden snakes home. (Much to the chagrin of my mother, who I scared the life out of when I was 5. Word of advice, don't pick up a snake and take it to your mother on the first day of kindergarten, and tell her that you've found a new pet. That really freaks them out, especially when there are bull snakes and rattlers that are known to live around your house.) I'm also one of those girls who hasn't grown up a "girly girl". I raised all sorts of farm animals and schlepted many feed, and water buckets. I also had to muck so many stalls that I think I became a pro at it.

Now I'm raising beardies (along with other animals. lol) We currently have 2 adult beardies, and one juvie.

I'm the one that takes care of them all. Not my other half. He just buys the food and other things needed for them and I do all the work. I wouldn't have it any other way.

I love all reptiles and pretty much all animals in general. And I'm raising our daughter to be the exact same way. Girls shouldn't be raised to be such girly girls that they have to depend on other people to do things for them. If their raised right then they should have a love, and understanding for all animals (not saying that they should want to own every animal, just saying have an appreciation for them.)

I had to join in on this thread! I am a 40 year old mom of 5 kids. I have surrounded my self with pets (multiple) my whole life. I never owned a reptile though (aside from the occasional lizard or snake I'd catch as a kid and release after a couple days) until two weeks ago. My youngest son has been begging me for a lizard for a year now. I resisted with the excuse that we have enough pets already (dog, cat, parrot, 2 guinea pigs, hamster, fish) but that was only part of the reason. I wasn't convinced that a lizard was going to contribute enough to our life to warrant the time and money for its care it would add to my already large load. You see, my kids wanted a lizard who would interact with them and like to be held. No such thing, I said, at least not that a 6 year old could handle reliably. How wrong was I! I finally caved in to my son's big blue eyes, and after a ton of research (on this site might I add  ) I made an appointment to meet with a breeder a few hours away. As soon as the breeder handed the dragon to my son it was a done deal. He crawled right up on my son's shoulder and cuddled in for a nap. My husband teases me now that I spend more time with the beardie than the kids do. What can I say. I am hooked! I don't even mind the insects too much... at least a few at a time. I have to admit that when I opened the box of 150 crickets I ordered on line, I had to enlist my husband's help in transferring them to their permanent holding box! Funny that the roaches were easier for me. They didn't swarm around as much! Anyway, I'm a convert.... on my way to being a Beardie Addict!!!

It's true. For two days after we got our BD, my son couldn't stop grinning. He'd wrap his arms around my legs and stand there forever just grinning up at me, not saying anything with words, but beaming a million thanks with his eyes. If you can't tell, I'm pretty much a sucker for my kids. That's why we have our own private petting zoo! My husband begs to differ... he says we'd have the zoo regardless of the kids! Ummmm... no comment.

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
is tape safe for fixing something in my leopard geckos hide?
Day 3 of brumation. It's a struggle. I really miss my little guy. 😔
