Another tile question

Most of the viv setups I've seen using tile use entirely tile as the substrate. My tank is irritatingly 11.5"x29.5" on the inside making just slotting in some 12x12 tiles annoyingly difficult so I was considering doing one section as tile on top of the repticarpet. Has anyone done this and how did it work out?

Same here! I bought the 12x12 tiles & a 12x6 only to get home and realize my 20long was NOT 12x30. I don't know where you are located, but both lowes and Home Depot in my area cut tile for free if purchased from their store. I was told to bring back my slate and they'd cut it for me. I believe each tile was about $1.30.

I ended up going for some 6x6 slate tiles and offsetting them. I'm not sure if my beardie likes it yet. In a few months we'll be upgrading the tank and I'll see about getting some tiles custom cut then once I know what tank size he'll have.

I would measure the tiles at the store before buying them. It is my experience that at Lowes/Home Depot that tiles listed as 12 x 12 or 6 x 6 are actually smaller. The 12x12's I bought ended up being 11.5 x 11.5.

It is worth the time to measure the inside of your tank and then your tiles before having them cut.
