Since Gaper passed away, Ed and I haven't been able to bring ourselves to get another beardie. I don't know why but we haven't been able to. I mean it isn't like we're lacking in the beardie department with having the other 3 kiddos! We almost took in a rescue about 3 months ago but he died before we could get there (very long story).

So about a month ago, I get a call from the Humane Society, which I thought was very strange! I pick it up and on the other end is a very familiar voice.. Dr Rounds! Dr. Karen Rounds was/is our beloved herp vet who recently quit working at the clinic we usually take the scaley ones to and started at the Humane Society. I said Hello and she said "Hi, this is Dr. Rounds from the Humane Society and I used to work at Kulshan and I don't even know if you remember me." I told her that not only do we remember her but we talk about her probably on a weekly basis because we just love her so much and are so confident in her care. She was quite surprised. Then she proceeded to tell me that the reason she called me was because she recently got a beardie in in the shelter and was wondering if I was in a position to do a rescue. I said that I was (although, I had yet to talk to Ed about it and I wasn't even really sure if I wanted another!) and I set up a time to meet her on the following Tuesday.

It was funny that she called us when she did because just about two weeks prior, Ed and I decided that we were going to take the two bottom vivs, one of which is Stumpy's and the other of which is empty, and convert them into one big HUGE viv for Stumps. We were just figuring out how to do it the best way.

So fast forward to that following Tuesday. Ed and I go in to meet this little guy. Dr. Rounds said that he was small, most likely a juvie. Secretly, I was thinking.. "HELLO! I just got over dealing with 2 juvies.. I like the once a day feedings!" We go in, tell the ladies who we are and are taken in back into the sick kitty room. There on the floor in this 20L was this pathetic little pot bellied beardie. His poor feet were bright red from Calci-Sand and he had stress marks all over his tummy and chest. Let's not forget the fact that within the first 30 seconds of Ed and I having him out, he had already tried to bite us 3 times! LOL Ed looked at me, looked back at the little stinker and looked at the girls and said "We'll take him!" Before we left, we set up a time to have a fecal done on him and I asked the girls who brought him in. This is the story I got.

We live in a college town. A beautiful college town but a college town none the less. Apparently, two caring souls brought our new guy in about 7 - 10 days ago during a hot bout we were having. Apparently, these two girls found this guy running loose up at the WWU (Western Washington University) arboretum! Someone dumped him and if it hadn't of been as warm as it was (upper 70's during the day, mid 50's at night) he would have been dead for sure. Ed and I were pretty much appauled when we heard about this. We just couldn't believe that someone would do that. The best we could figure is that since it was right when college was letting out for the year and people were clearing out of the dorms that someone was probably moving back home and didn't want the "hassle" of moving their lizard so they just dumped him.

We got him home and he's doing fine other then being loaded with hook worms. He loves his greens, he loves horns and silkies and small supers to. He's about 14.25 inches and approximately 155 - 160 grams. He hates being bathed with a passion and is still trying to bite everyone that comes near him or touches his beard. He is slowly getting better though. Oh yes, he also gets a full black beard already. We think he is Stumpy's long lost son or something. If he starts bobbing, we're going to have bobbing twins.

Ed named him Bisby because he is our busy bee. He is constantly on the move. He is the most hyper baby I have ever seen. So without further ado, here is bisby himself!

Funny how some animals just seem to find you eh? I'm glad you were in the position to make that rescue and I hope Brisby appreciates how good he's got it now :)

he's probably a busy bee because for the first time in his life he has good food, good owners and the right temp that's warm enough to leave his basking spot (if he even had one) grrrr. my boyfriend wants to open a pet shop one day but we live in a college town too and i would be so afraid of accidentally selling to a stupid college student who won't care for his pets properly. if we do do it then we'll end up with a screening system that would rival the adoption agency lol. back ground checks and i think either buying all the supplies from us or bringing in recipts and invoices of everything they need before they can take one of our pets home lol. well i hope your little guy gets well and starts loving back without the teeth. lol congrats!

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
is tape safe for fixing something in my leopard geckos hide?
Day 3 of brumation. It's a struggle. I really miss my little guy. 😔
