I really like the vet - Dr. Johnson. He seemed to really seemed to know his stuff about bearded dragons, and asked me really thorough questions on my husbandry with Stanley, and I really liked that.
One thing that he strongly suggested was that since I'm using a quality UVB light, that I shouldn't supplement with calcium+D3 - that I should use calcium ONLY, because he's already getting plenty of D3 from the UVB light, and that too much D3 can cause kidney issues later in life.
So Stan gets to take .1 ml of Ponazuril once a day for 21 days, and I am to supplement him with 1.5 ml of Emeraid Omnivore every day until he starts eating better again.
Of course, as soon as I brought him home, he promptly stuffed his face with ALL of his veggies and roaches. SERIOUSLY, STAN?!? But that was all he ate today. I guess something is better than nothing though!
I gave him his first dose of the Ponazuril this evening, and it was easy-peasy. I just burrito'd him up, pulled down the skin around the side of his mouth, and he opened his yap and I squirted it in - .1 is such a small amount that he was able to swallow it in one little gulp, so that's nice. He's such a good little dragon!
I'm glad I trusted my gut-instinct and took him in.
Thank you, me too! The Ponazuril sounds like a good med - I did some reading on it last night before I gave him the first dose.
He pooped this morning, and already it seemed a bit better. Still kinda stinky, but no watery-ness.
And yeah - you should probably get Rosalia tested too, she likely has coccidia too. Since they (well, Stanley anyhow - that I know for sure) hasn't been around any other reptiles, he likely got it when he was with his clutchmates. Dr. Johnson said that coccidia is really only transferred from reptile-to-reptile, and it's really, really common.
"Mommy makes me take my stupid bath in the SINK now!"
Yes, if bathtime weren't already just barely tolerable, now I'm making Stanley take his bath in the sink - easier cleanup since I have to bleach it out after each bath. HE HATES IT!!! He splashed and threw water ALL OVER the sink, LOL
I went out and bought a scale FINALLY... He is up to 115 grams - 10 gram gain since Saturday! That makes me feel better that he's gaining even though he's being medicated.
He ate 20 roaches and his salad today - I'm hoping he'll eat some more roaches tonight - so far he's just glancing at them. :?
Ugh, I can't wait until he's eating like a pig again!
Hee hee hee! He DOES kind of look that way! Although I know that it was more like a: "I'm cranky and I know it! I'm cranky and I know it!" ***WIGGLEWIGGLEWIGGLEWIGGLE*** :laughhard: :laughhard: :laughhard:
LOL! Crankey, sexy, and trashes the 'hot tub' ... hmmm... Yep, he's a little rock star! 8) Glad he's ok with his meds. Feel better soon little one.

We're *almost* done with the Ponazuril! YAY! 4 more days to go!
Stanley is doing really well - eating like a pig again and is LOVING his roaming time outside of the cage. He stomps around the house like he owns it, LOL. He doesn't wander too far before he back-tracks to find me again and "check in" before going off and exploring some more. I love that he does that, its so sweet!
He's now up to 175 grams!
Okay, and I'd just like to go on record here - I really, really think that Stanley is a female. I know their junk doesn't really show up until they are a little older, but his (her??) underside looks EXACTLY like a female. :?
I'll try and get some pics tomorrow and let you guys help me figure it out. I'm usually pretty good at figuring out the sex of beardies, but for some reason when it's my own beardie, I just don't know LOL
The breeder *said* he was a male, but really - I wonder how they are able to tell at such a young age?
Stanley doing a little sexy leg on his beloved hammock:
Stanly is such a pretty lil guy! Gosh the pic you posted on he 4th compared o the last one he has changed a lot. He looked like a baby and now he looks like a juvie. Sniff sniff he'll be all grown up soon.
Thank you! Yes, he's growing up fast! He no longer has that "baby face", and he's getting big muscles on his arms and legs!
I'm getting ready to start doing some hardcore shopping for a bigger viv. I have to get one soon! I'm thinking of ordering the 4'x2'x2' from customcages.com - he's ready to burst out of the 30 gal that he's in now! I feel bad that I still have him in there.
