Sorry ahead of time if any of this doesn't make sense, I'm crying right now.
So our beardie, Allie, isn't doing so well today. She's had a leg problem and couldn't figure out what it was. Made a few posts about it and then asked Tracie, she told us to treat it like a fungus, so we started doing fungus treatment 3 days ago. (today marks the 3rd day, but we haven't done anything today because if this)
Today, we went to go get her up and she's all lethargic, doesn't want to hold up her head, her breathing is real shallow, and won't open her eyes. (we know she -can- open them because she's done it once or twice) We're crying so much right now because we think she might be dieing. We don't want to lose her! Please help....
A little info for those who don't know:
Her set up is fine. Tile floor, right UVB light, temps are good (thermometers with probes), all that stuff. And nothing in her tank has changed
She's eating all the right foods. Salad: mustered greens/collard greens, yellow squash/butternut squash, and carrots. Live feeders: Dubia nymphs
If you need anymore info, please feel free to ask. I kinda rushed this to get it out there and I may have missed some things. Thank you guys in advance!
*edit* She just pooped (it looks normal) and she moved around the tank to get away from it, but she did all this without opening her eyes. If she does open her eyes, it's only for a split sec...like she's trying to get her barrings and then closes them again.
Her fat pads are the same size they've always been. She shows no signs of dehydration at all. (we give her daily baths)
No black beard and no stress marks at all. I thought that was kinda odd...but Idk.
She was moving all around the tank just a bit ago and she's walking fine and holding her head up when she walks, but she still keeps her eyes closed. She will only open them half way for a split sec to get her barrings and then closes them.
That is odd - normally with what your describing there is some sign of stress (dehydration can be another sign of stress/a reaction to something so thats why I was asking - based on her yellow fungus treatment, I knew it wouldnt be tree dehydration).
So shes moving around. Hmm
Im going to ask some more questions - please dont think im being patronising :S Im just throwing out all of these things as possibilities.
I know she isnt opening her eyes but does she appear to be alert/responsive?
Your reptisun is 6-8 inches from her?
Is there anything that may have gotten into her eyes?
When she does open her eyes do they appear any different? Possible shedding? Crust? Liquid?
If you gently rub one of her eyes with your finger does she try to rub her eye against it?
Im going to ask some more questions - please dont think im being patronising :S Im just throwing out all of these things as possibilities. It's fine, if you need to ask questions I understand it's to help figure out what's going on.
I know she isnt opening her eyes but does she appear to be alert/responsive? I'm not sure I understand what you mean exactly, but if you're asking if she "looks" around and moves around, then yes. She's moving around more, she even tried to climb her vine (she's always trying to climb that thing lol), but she just won't open her eyes for more than a sec at a time.
Your reptisun is 6-8 inches from her? Yes, the way we have her tank set up her bridge (where she basks now since my youngest son broke her tree) is set in a spot where she can get anywhere between 6"-10" from it depending on where she's sitting. If that makes sense.
Is there anything that may have gotten into her eyes? Not that I can think of. She was fine last night (I even took a video of her) and she doesn't have anything in her tank that is lose.
When she does open her eyes do they appear any different? Possible shedding? Crust? Liquid? No, they don't. She did shed 3-4 days ago, but everything has come off. ScubaSteve was watching her to make sure everything went okay. (we're always worried about retained shed) No crust, no liquid, nothing at all. Everything about her eyes look normal.
If you gently rub one of her eyes with your finger does she try to rub her eye against it? Idk, I haven't tried...I can try here in a bit. I'm gonna wash my hands and everything so I don't make anything worse.
Yeah, I don't like the vet here. He's the one that told us her leg was fine, said it was scar tissue, but it flakes and it's spreading....Tracie told us to treat her for fungus. Stupid vet!
No, you're doing fine! I'm just glad I'm at least getting some posts and not just sitting here like "why will no one answer me~?!? "
We're trying to relax right now, don't want to get too upset/stressed out and not be able to help Allie. We're trying to do some research on the web too. :study:
Good idea! I know how hard it is tho - Kazi has been very sick for the past 6 weeks - for 2 weeks I was only allowed to hold him for meds/baths and it drove me mad - I wanted to cuddle him to make him feel better and I couldnt!
I mentioned the eye rubbing because Kazi had a funny eye a few weeks ago that he wouldnt open - everytime i touched it he would frantically rub his eye on my finger - we still dont know what caused it and im still concerned about it but the vet sees nothing wrong with it
the vet here sucks, nearest reputable vet that i know of is in 2 hours away, and achi has to work this afternoon, sadly, its just not in the cards to get her to a vet today.
so, her "fungus" leg is elevated, she wont put it down, still wont open her eyes, and her tail is darkened about half way up, i really hope that the fungus didnt get the best of her, i wanna be optimistic, but it's hard, like i said, we dont have time to go to the vet today, achi has to work and she takes the car, the vet is hella far, and they are closed on the weekends. i really don't know what to do and i'm at a loss. i don't want her to suffer, and she seems like shes in a lot of pain...... the whole situation makes me wanna cry, we love her, and idk..... it sucks
Your setup looks fine, no problems there.
Are you using probiotics correct? I apologize if I have already asked that. It can help her system fight off excess yeasts caused from the fungal issues.
Did she drink any of the water with the betadine in it possibly?
Try to get some fluids into her & if possible, get some bee pollen to help her immune system right now.
I hope that the fungus has not gotten her insides infected, as well. She is young so I hope she is able to fight this off.
