Just got a fecal back and Bulmers has cociddia and pinworms. Was given Albon for him to take .15ml once daily for 28 days. I would give the tank a good cleaning once a week while keeping it sanitary otherwise. I was told to clean it daily during this treatment. I will also get some new basking branches as well. Any other advice?? What should I expect during this?

I know this belongs in health, but I wanted to put it in GD so it can actually get some replies before being tossed into the back of the crawlspace (other categories).

What strength is the Albon, 5% maybe? And what does your dragon weigh, maybe 150 grams? If so, I can't imagine giving it to a dragon for 28 days, I've never used it more than a week. I would also hold off until you got some probiotics to go with it, like Acidophiliz+.

It's 5%. He's about 160 grams. Says .15ml once a day for 28 days. AcidoPhilliz is ordered. Should I get Reptaid as well? How should these supplements be given?

My beardie wen through this as well and the vet said to take everything in the tank outside and let it sit in the sun for a couple of hours. At the time the tank she was in was small enough I could get my husband to take it out side while she was running around getting her exercise. She said this was the best way to kill any eggs that might remain and we were very successful with only one course of medicine getting rid of them. Good luck with your uninvited guests.

Well did they tell you the count of the coccidia, or pinworms?
I do not agree with medicating for that long of period of time.
Maybe double check the dose also, it might be a little high for that strength of solution.
If you are going to medicate, I would definitely use a probiotic along with the Albon as it is hard on their systems. He will need extra oral fluids daily, as well to keep him from getting dehydrated.

See if you can find out what the counts were on the test results, that will give you a better idea of the severity of the coccidia. Pinworms do not cause tissue damage and are not as much of a concern. Most dragons, especially younger dragons like yours, will have elevated levels of coccidia due to higher stress levels. Usually when a vet medicates for periods longer than a week, the strength of the Albon has been diluted. I have seen this for smaller, younger animals so that it is easier on their system, and usually 2 weeks is sufficient. The vet should also do a recheck later to make sure the coccidia is gone.

If you would like a recommendation for dosing your dragon, I normally use the 5% at .1 ml per 100 grams (or .15 for 150 grams) for 3 days on, 3 days off, then 3 days on. After a week, I do another fecal exam to check the levels. This schedule has always been effective. Of course, using Albon is always a last resort after doing two or three fecals that are consistently high

While giving Albon, before I start, I begin using the Acidophiliz+ a day or two ahead of time and give 1 dropperful twice a day. I also give extra water using a dropper, wet the greens and give a bath daily or every other day. It can also be helpful to dip your feeders in water before feeding.

Reptaid is an alternative medicine and should not be given with Albon. You can try it instead of meds if the counts are not excessively high, or as a preventative on a maintenance schedule if there is cause for concern.
