:( :( So I went to check the water crystals in my roach colony, which I only do once a week. Well I guess somehow the water crystals got knocked over and there is MOLD. I moved them to a new clean container, but it looks like half my colony died. I'm so upset. They are kind of expensive and now half are dead! uhhh!

There has to be another factor as to why they got moldy, give us a little more info and we might be able to help a little more. I check my colonies daily and believe me it's a good practice that you should start doing. By checking I don't mean disturbing the roaches. I check on the food, the state of the crystals, and if there's any fruit or vegetables they get tossed after 48 hours regardless. Don't give up on the Dubia. Mold happens for a reason and I'm sure that we can correct that for you so it won't happen again. Chalk this up under a learning experience.

Well the colony itself didn't look like it had mold on it but I didn't look very closely at the roaches. Its where the crystals spilled out of the bowl onto some of the food there was a huge pile of mold.

I can't afford to lose a colony to mold because I have customers that depend on me. This is how I keep mold out of my colonies. I have fresh fruits and vegetables available to my Dubia 24/7. Every 48 hours their fruits and vegetables are changed out for new food on a clean dish. I get any scraps that they may have dragged around and toss them. I keep my water crystals in a mound on a lid. They last about 4 days before they are gone and I change that dish out for a new one. It's all about keeping any moisture to a minimum, and your food dishes sanitized.

Another bad habit that people have when they can't attain the correct humidity is misting. They feel that if they mist it'll solve the problem. Wrong. If you mist... Stop now. W/ misting, you are only asking for a major problems including mold, bacteria, and parasites. The only way that you can keep non fluctuating humidity is quite simple. It takes heat, water crystals and the correct size vent on the top or sides of your enclosure to keep the humidity in but to also keep enough circulation. Most people use a 8 x 8 or 10 x 10 hole cut into their lid. From that point you need to get your temps into the mid eighties range which combined w/ a good dish of water crystals should put you right around 40-50% humidity. Even if you live in a dry climate this will work. Plastic Sterilite tubs keep humidity 100 x's better than glass fish tanks. Keep this in mind as well.

Hope this helps.
Good Luck!

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
is tape safe for fixing something in my leopard geckos hide?
