Hello,

Is there any way of telling how old a bearded dragon is? Xena is my first dragon, and I got her from a previous owner that was neglecting her. I've had her for two months, and if her previous owner is to be believed, she had her for two months as well. So I'm fairly sure she's at least 4 months old, but I have no idea if she could be older than that. She was also very underweight when I first got her, although now she's getting quite chunky and has a huge appetite :D Also, how can I be sure that she's actually a she? I'm just going on what the previous owner said.

Hi. You can sex her by placing her on the palm of your hand lifting her tail 90 degree angle. 2 bumps above the vent its a boy one bump its a girl. Congrats on your new little one :D

Thank you! I measured her last night, and she's 9.5". I just wasn't sure if maybe her growth was a little stunted because of how underfed she was.

Figured I would revive this old post with the same question of how old everyone might think this dragon to be. We just got her about 2 weeks ago. We will be the 3rd or 4th owner of her I believe from what I was told. The last owner believed her to be around 16months old. Is this correct?

She is roughly elbow to finger tips counting all of her tail on a adult. ( My son is holding her in the photo. ) So 15-18in long? I am only curious with this because I am looking up all the information I can find and trying to figure feeding schedules and how much to feed her and if or when she might try to lay eggs and such.

Hi there.....that's a nice looking dragon there. :) Unfortunately it's impossible to tell the age with any accuracy once they are adult size. It could be anywhere from 12 months to a much older dragon of 5 or more years. You'll just have to go with the guesstimate that you were given because it's very feasible. Are you positive it's a girl ? If you want to be sure, you can arch the tail up while she's flat on a table or floor [ or even your hand] and check the area above the vent. You can post pics here if you need help. Hopefully she will settle in quickly + become part of the family. :)

Thats what I was looking for. Just wanting to know if she is considered an adult or still some what of a juvi for feeding purposes and general info when I am looking up information.

I had looked up how to tell if she is female or not just never checked till now. Pretty sure she is a she. 1 lump just down the tale from slit. Also held her up straight and no dual lumps on the belly area.

So far she is doing great! Eating salad and crickets very well and very active. She has adopted us as her family very well. I was worried about getting an older dragon at first but this maybe for the better. She is so calm can hand feed her with no problems. My 6yr old had some friends over and all of them in the room was a little more than she was willing to tolerate so she puffed up a little so I shut her up away from all kids and she was fine. I know the limits of her patience now.

I'm interested in this too. I got a dragon from somebody who was neglecting it. The owner said the dragon was a male and that it was 7 months old. But, my other dragon Spyro (my male dragon) was just 6 months old at this time and he was a hell of a lot smaller than the new dragon was. So, I'd like to be able to predict the age. I believed him when he told me that the dragon was a male, so I didnt bother to check or anything. Then about a month after having her, she layed a clutch of over 30 infertile eggs! When Spyro saw her he head bobbed constantly and since she was thought to be a male, I thought Spyro wanted to fight. Turns out he wants to mate! I know this because of a little incident that happened when he seen her again and tried mating with another object... But I'll save that story for another time.......

I just set Swordtail's timer for his bath and paused it so I could actually fill his soaking bowl up and he crawled over my phone and canceled the timer 🤣
Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
