When I bought my daughter a beardie in April, the pet rep suggested that I add variety to the diet so they don't become dependant on one supplement.
We tried the crickets as the constant food source and added wax worms as a 'treat'. Well Harold, the beardie, did not seem too keen on the worm. In fact he backed away from it. I offered it again and even left it in the dish for the rest of the day...no go.
We offered him an earth worm when he was quite young. He kind of froze on the spot. The earth worm stretched out and wiggled around for a bit and I noticed that Harold clung onto his branch even harder. He was literally scared of it. His little legs and tail were completely wrapped around the branch until I removed the earth worm.
To this day, I have attempted to offer wax worms, but still no go.
We took Harold on the leash into the back yard during the summer. He loved it. He kept trying to dive into the rosemary bushes in the garden. There were a couple of low flying wasps in the area flying just above the grass line. While I attempted to swoosh the wasps away, Harold managed to snag one. I don't know if it is a recommended food item; however, Harold enjoyed it. I just thought, Oh great...How am I going to deal with the stinger.
