caly is 5 months old and pretty big. 18inches 300+g. well it is finally getting nice here in buffalo, ny. so i took her outside for the first time today. she was sitting on my hand and forearm stretched out just looking around. she has sat on a window sill with the window open on somewhat nice days before. so she saw birds and everything and watched them with content. well today she jumped down and i thought nothing of it. then she was just walking around near me and all of a sudden she bolted right under my grill to hide. she stayed there and i watched her to just let her do her thing. well she wasnt coming out on her own so i pulled her out. my mom came out and started talking to me and i was holding her and she started freaking out again putting up a fight to get hidden. i just held her firmly kinda on my chest like i do a lot and took her back inside. she was really dark on her beard and her stress marks were showing when the usually dont. so i am wondering if maybe shes just afraid of the outside? and wondering if anyone else had a beardie like this. thanks for any input.

maybe being inside shes knows shes safe, but then when you take here out side she freaks out cuz she has no where safe to go and if this is the first time she has been out side she would freak out. if her tank is light enough take here outside in that it might help.

My male beardies do better outside than the females do. It seems to me as if the female is a bit more paranoid of things above than the males are. For instance when I take my beardies for a ride the females will totally freak out whenever we go under an overpass the boys it doesn't phase them. When my females are outside they prefer to be in the outdoor enclosure rather than in the open.

thanks. i was hoping there would be some light shed on this. it does make sense to me since shes only known the inside world so far except for the window. her cage is huge and i dont wanna carry that. i might just make an small outdoor enclosure for her. my male is a bit smaller and i just got him thursday. so i am waiting for him to settle in completely before i do anything like that with him. thanks for the input guys.

You know Barbara you might be on to something there. Roo and Lexia are very paranoid when outside and the boys dont really care.

My recomdations are to keep taking her outside slowly everyday for longer and longer periods so she can get used to it. I've been working on Roo for about 2 weeks well she is getting better. It takes time.

Besides occasionally hiding from big birds and low flying planes, Scorch LOVES to be outside and she loves to look out the car window or sit on the dash board checking everything out that is going on. So, I am not sure about the whole male vs female thing.

Mine are just the opposite, my male is paranoid and does the mad dash at the sight of anything and my female goes into beast mode and acts as if she has lived outside all her life. My flower bed out front is full of tropical leafy plants low to the ground which provide good cover and it is bordered by large rocks. She usually hunts (I toss crix), basks and loves to dig. My male is very skiddish and stays well hidden and alert, he won't even let me get near him, and won't even think about eating out there. We do have red tail hawks so I stay very close by. The cool thing is that they know where the front door is when the sun starts to set.

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
is tape safe for fixing something in my leopard geckos hide?
Day 3 of brumation. It's a struggle. I really miss my little guy. 😔
