-used a 40 w bulb
-raised the basking log
- got dimmer and tried it with both wattages

the situation we have is the basking log is 105 he is a baby but we cant get the cool side any lower than 87 if we are lucky we also have a timmer to turn the lights off for 2 hrs in the day at seperate intervals

i mean it doesnt seem to affect him too much he started shedding yesterday we have had him 5 wks and he is starting to eat well

That is very strange.

With a 4ft viv a temp gradient should be no problem.

What are you measuring the cool side with?

I don't understand how in a 4ft viv, the basking surface is reading 105 but the cool end, 4 feet away, is 87.

What kind of ventilation do you have?

It might be your thermometer. Can you go to walmart and pick up the acu-rite digital thermometer with probe?

Hwey we live in the uk so we don't have a walmart. We have a thermometer with a probe we r putting the wholw thing in the cage r u meant to leave the body of the thermometer on outside of the viv and the probe inside??? We have 3 vents on the viv will take a pic tom he's alsleep don't wanna wake him. The uv tube is low 6 to 8 inches but we moved it up and only made a diff of about point 1

It would depend on what type of probe thermometer you have.

The probe should be where it reads the temp, not the base unit.

But some do, like the acu-rite can also read the temp from the base unit.

Ours uses the probe to read the temp but I chuck the whole thing in I might try and get another thermometer coz I did notice the dimmer and the thermometer were out for eg the dimmer was set for the cool side to not go above 85 and the thermometer was reading it at 88 f
