adopted an aggressive dragon

they said they thought hes a male, but im not too sure id get a pic but hes MEAN. They NEVER picked him up he bites, hisses, charges you and just unpleasant. How do i tame this wild thing? temps are fine lights are new ( i have one happy healthy spoiled dragon ) took him off the calci-sand they had him on for 15 months.They said they bought him as a baby ( 3-4 inch long ) they had night lights on him (the red and black) dosent have them now heck he was in a storage room nobody went into. he seems healthy good weight good color bright eyes and pooped today nice and formed almost no smell. He never had a soak till today drank some serious water poor thing. he is in his own enclosure away from Rose (my baby girl) His name is Monster hes just so MEAN never thought they got this nasty. would like some advice on how to help his attitude issues. Got him in my living room so he can see ppl. trimmed his nails aka daggers of doom and redid his enclosure the right way. Just dont know how to tame him.

I'm hoping getting out of the storage room and seeing more will help. He may need time to just get use to noise, and movement again. If you do approach try taking little steps. I would give a few days of just feeding and no more. Let him settle in quite a bit before making any large attempts of contact. When you do handle him take it slow. I use a small blanket I have in the viv to pick up my more aggressive one. He is used to seeing it because it is in the viv. The smell from it is his own. When I take him out I wrap him in it and try to settle him and cuddle a few minutes at a time. He has already come a long way. Good luck. I hope a few more chime in soon.

Glad to know theres hope! i had to wrap him for his bath hes sooooo mean i feel so bad for him. I cant believe how you can keep any animal with out at least knowing a little about them Im happy I have him but WOW been a few near misses since i got him home 8 hours ago.Im going to let him be for now but want to start working with him as soon as i can, anyone know how bad its gonna be when he finally bites me LOL ? all he ever ate was collards and crickets he keeps going nuts slamming himself into the sides and black bearding and being just nuts

figured that one out my bad thought he couldnt see Rose, i was wrong fixed it hope he stops freaking now.

Is it a glass tank? He may be seeing his reflection making it worse?! Can you tape paper towels on the other sides if it is glass? I would hate to see him hurt himself :shock:

it sounds like you have a long road ahead of you.

keep being consistent with introducing yourself to him. put something of yours that has your scent in with him.

"hand" feed him with tongs so he gets used to you providing the food.

don't try to pick him up all the time just yet. get him used to your hand first. let him know it's safe and not to bite it.
then you can move onto rubbing the top of his head, then holding the front part of him in your hand while his feet are still on the ground. then eventually sitting in your hand. this all might take a while if he has never been handled.

depends on the size.

a baby can't fit your finger in their mouth, so the bite will be more like a nip.

and adult however can get you. if your finger fits in their mouth they can really chomp down. their teeth are very sharp, you will bleed and it will hurt.

im currently putting paper on his viv yes its glass. ill have to get some tongs for feeding that way ill do that 2marrow. ill toss in my shirt too, still have to find the right stuffie for him. Rose has blankies and a stuffed elephant she snuggles at night shes a sweety picky eater but a sweety. just so i dont get flamed i am NOT breeding them EVER. Just had to help this guy out of the mess he was in. seems my mistake was he could see her slightly from one small corner thats now blocked off so im pretty sure he wont have another freak out. Are all younger males so hostile? Hahahaha ill let you know how awfull it is if he tags me. my late male Thorn bit my credit card bad enough to leave tooth prints when he was on meds, not looking forward to being bit but Thorn was bigger than Monster is. Hubbie named him Monster i wanted to call him Fluffy LOL

Great.... not needing stitches bad though right? Like a snake bite bleeds a lot but heals up good? Got bit by a 5ft ball python once hurt real bad bled a lot but healed up no scar.

I was thinking Fluffy cause hes such a monster LOL he came with a sign on his viv " beware of dragon" very fitting left it there LOL had a great dane named Peewee LOL he was HUGE

hes calmed down some now that i blocked the sight of Rose off.

probably not, your fingers just bleed a lot because of the amount of blood circulating in them.
luckily i have never been bit, just nipped

and i can just hear "who's my scary widdle fluffy monster! yes you are! yes you ARE!"

well seems like hes calmer today didnt try to eat me when i put in his greens and let hubbie pet his head for a few seconds LOL must have enjoyed the first good sleep hes had in forever
