http://www.walmart.com/ip/Acu-Rite-Indoor-Outdoor-Thermometer/896347 Those are great thermometers. What you do is place the probe end right on the basking log or rock, make sure the probe is actually touching it and laying flat. Then you place the thermometer part way over on the bottom of the cool side, you wait about 45 min to an hr for the temps to stop rising, then the "out" reading will be for the basking temp and the "in" reading for the cool side. Let us know how you make out.

Great I will let you know the results tomorrow! Also, I'm sure I will figure this out when I get it, but does the probe stick to the basking log or does it just sit there? And do I place the thermometer just on the floor?

The probe has a piece of paper on the bottom that you can peel off although it isn't very sticky. It may stay in place or you may been to use a piece of scotch tape to put on the wire near the probe but not on the probe itself.

Yes, you place the thermometer part on the floor over the tank, way over on the cool side.

How did you make out with the temps?

Actually pretty well. The thermometer is great! It's really hot in my room though right now so the temps are a bit higher. But he will be sleeping soon.

Thanks for asking!

On the basking site they were around 105-108 and then on the cool side around 84-85. Then when my father turned the AC off in the house (which is tends to do, it is a cool night here tonight), the temps shot up because the terrarium is upstairs in my room so it's always warmer up here. The temps reached 111 I think on the basking side? And in the 90's on the cool side. He always sits on the warm side though so he is always getting the heat. But once those temps hit the highs, it was bed time anyway. So he is sound asleep at 85 degrees right now.

How's that sounding?

I just set Swordtail's timer for his bath and paused it so I could actually fill his soaking bowl up and he crawled over my phone and canceled the timer 🤣
Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
