Acceptance of Death

I was wondering how long it takes you guys to move on from the grief of a passed beardie.
It usually doesn't take me long to accept death, but with my last beardie it was different. I could still go longer without another beardie in my life (still a little tender-hearted ), but things are showing me it is time.
My opinion with the whole "replacement" crap...nothing can replace the ones who have passed. I just enjoy having animals in my life and feel empty without their presence.
I will never, ever, ever forget Cinder. I thank him all the time for being with me for the short time he was.

I want to know how long it has taken you, personally, to accept death and feel ready to have a new beardie in your life.

We lost a total of 6 beardies in a 2 year period. The first two we really miss because they were a very unusual pair. They were best friends. We've heard about a couple of others like that here and there but not very many. Redrock we got because the second of our first two died. We got two, not knowing, at that time, that they do better alone. These two were fine together but Sandstone (we got him/her with Redrock and only had him/her for 4 months) disappeared outside and we never saw him/her again. We got Goldie (aka Speedy Gonzales) on the last Friday in August of 08. The following Monday was Labor day, September 1st. I had Redrock outside with me and she was turning around on my back and somehow lost her grip, she fell and must have seriously injured her head as she died on September 10th that year. We got Rosie (Zoom Zoom) at the reptile show in Tucson, AZ at the end of September. I wanted 2 beardies. Our house seemed empty without Redrock.

I guess you could say that we are the type of people that need beardies in our lives. I would like one of Barbara's babies but we can't do it right now for several factors.

I've lost 3 dragons. With 2 of them, I had other dragons to take care of, so that pulled me out of it. With the other, he had a full life and happy life. When my pets die of old age, it's not as sad to me. I will miss them, but it's easier for me to accept that they had a full and happy life, and it was just their time.

Sadona,
I dont think there is a right or wrong time for you to be okay... everyone grieves differently, and if you feel you can move forward then i would do it... We know no other will ever replace Cinder, but you have lots of love to give and if you are okay i say go for it!!

I agree. Cinder has shown you how wonderful beardies are as pets. If it wasn't for him you wouldn't have found another one (if you choose to). If we hadn't lost the first two we did, we wouldn't have Redrock. If not for her loss we wouldn't have Rosie.

he taught you about the bearded dragon.... thats what makes him so special... and i reread what you posted first... and i dont think you are looking for "replacement" anyone who says differntly needs to go away! It takes some longer than others to move on, but like i say its not written in stone how you should feel for how long... *hugs to you my friend* Let us know if/when you decide the time is right! I KNOW you will make another very happy and very loved when the time is right...

You cant replace them in your heart. I've only lost 1 beardie she was a 7 yr old rescue who needed alot of care. So i spent alot of time with her. She was only with us for about 3 months before she passed over night. She is still my avatar. Shes been gone over a yr and i still get teared up when i look at her pictures. Id have to say i cried for months and months after her passing. If i seen one of her pillows or her ricesocks. I put all of her fav things in her homemade casket. Just thinking about her now has me teared up. She was the grumpiest thing. If looks could kill id be dead lol But thats what i loved about her she has such spunk!

Im really sorry you lost one.

Thanks again, Phoenix, for the kind words...
Wow Freeie, seven years?! That is a ripe old age for a beardie! I haven't heard of them making it past six.
I'm sure her time with you was the best in her life.
I didn't want to be a downer with this thread...in a way, it really makes you appreciate all of the beardies who have touched our hearts (or more appropriately, took a big bite out of it lol).

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
is tape safe for fixing something in my leopard geckos hide?
Day 3 of brumation. It's a struggle. I really miss my little guy. 😔
