About to buy a Beardie at an upcoming reptile show on Sept.

It's been a while since I've been to a reptile show, and have forgotten typcial prices for baby beardies. Was wondering if anyone could give me a ballpark figure for the dragon itself to help me plan a budget between now and then. Both male and female prices would be appreciated, as I still haven't decided which I want to get.

Thanks.

Hi There,
I will be a vendor at the upcoming M.A.R.S. show in MD this month. I will be bringing about 70 popers, thier prices will range from 25 for tailnips up to 200 for some of my more colorful dragons. Hope tis answers your question.

Wow. Wasn't expecting that high of a number. I could've sworn I bought my last dragon for about 20 or 30...no tailnips or anything...perfectly healthy. I might just be remembering wrong. We'll see...still going to get one. I've been excited about this for almost a month now! Thank you for the info. I really appreciate it.

Also, since you're a breeder, you can probably let me know what the names for certain patterns there are. I've seen a lot of them and heard of lot of the names (sandfire, citurs, etc.) but was never shown which patterns were which names...I love the dragons with more an orange color. They're beautiful.

To answer your question there are many different names for different patterns and morphs. Sandfire these days has become a pretty generic name that people use to describe color and it's not always true. Sandfire Dragon Ranch have developed their own line of color and called those dragons "Sandfire" dragons. Many people (breeders) even though their dragons have no "Sandfire" blood in them use this name to describe color when in fact they are not a true Sandfire.. so be careful when buying a "Sandfire"

$20-30 is a pretty common price for the normal dragons. Just normal tan good old beardies. As the morphs and colors get more vivid the higher prices you typically see. Just be sure before you buy a beardie that you do the research and do not get ripped off, there are quite a few people out there that charge an arm and a leg because their dragons have like a line of red in them ect.

Tom (the above poster) has some really nice dragons at some very fair prices and is a reputable breeder. Keep in mind that when you buy from shows you get what you get and there are no refunds (typically). I just got a baby from a show and about three days after she developed a upper respiratory infection... obviously not due to poor husbandry on my part, now I am stuck with some vet bills possibly and just a overall headache. That is a mistake I will not make again... point is just make sure you know who you are getting them from and that there is a contact in case something does not go right.

Just to add a note to P's post. If you buy from a breeder at the show regardless of who, ask about the dragons care, ask if there is a health garuntee, a breeder should back up the dragon regardless if it was bought from a show or thier site. Thanks for the compliment P.

Thanks for the advice, and the info on morphs and patterns. I've been carrying a pad of paper and a pen with me the last week or so, and anytime I think of something else that I'll want to ask the breeders, I write it down. That way, I won't forget them all once I get there and get drawn in to looking at all the beautiful reptiles. It's really been helping. But I'd appreciate any questions that anyone might think I might forget about. I know my fair share of caring for the dragon, so I don't need the breeder to inform me of all the care. I'm mostly just trying to think of questions that refer to the care they have given the dragons, guarantees they offer for the overall health, etc.

Thanks for all the input. This is my 2nd day on this Forum, and I can already tell that I'm home.

I'd ask about the parents and grandparents, just in case some day in the far future you want to breed. A good breeder will have that info.

3 years ago I bought a high yellow male baby from a good breeder (sexed as male) at a reptile show for 35 or 40 dollars.
I saw several poor quality breeders there, and only one of them was IMO a place where I would buy a Dragon from, it was a smaller type show, bigger ones have more selection. Just be very selective when picking out your breeder, as your future pet's health is at stake. Know what a healthy and happy Dragon looks like and study up to be able to carry on a conversation with the breeder to know if they have been caring for their reptiles properly. You don't want to start out with a Dragon that has already had a rough start and has poor genetics if you are paying money for a healthy pet kwim.
Good luck and have fun :)

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!

Day 3 of brumation. It's a struggle. I really miss my little guy. 😔
