A small section of sand ok?

I put a small section of sand in Sophia's cage. She is a 15 inch yellow. I think she is about 9 mo. She immediately went to it and started digging. That is why I put it in there, cause I thought she would like to dig. But now I am sarting to think even such a small section may not be so good. She has completely burried herself in it. Is there something else I can give her to dig in? She seems to enjoy it so much, but I don't want her to be completely covered in sand.

I give Dudley a box of alfalfa pellets to dig in.
What sort of alfalfa pellets do you give him? I looked at my local pet store and couldn't really find any that weren't mixed with something else and that wasn't chinchilla or rabbit food. I wasn't sure of those would be ok for the BD.

If you have a co-op around, thats where my sister gets the pure alfalfa pellets for her rats.

I buy the basic alfalfa pellets at Fleet Farm. Rabbit food is fine, as long as it doesn't have seeds/other crap in it!

I have a small area if oat bran in my vivs. It has the look of sand without the same impaction risk as it is digestable :)

I too use a dig box with alfalfa pellets in it for my female dragon. She is completely litter box trained now, as she refuses to poop anywhere but her dig box. She also LOVES digging in it. The rest of her enclosure is lined with non-adhesive shelf liner as its safe and easy to to use. Honestly I would avoid the use of any substrate that isn't digestible...even for a restricted space. Instead of sand, consider millet seed or alfalfa pellets. You can also use beardy food pellets if you don't mind the increased cost. Remove any waste you find daily, and replace the substrate as often as you can. I personally dump it weekly...though if she has made a total mess in there I'll dump it daily if I have to.
If you do this, you should be prepared for a daily mess...

No oats are too bigand chunky.
I just use whatever fine/medium grind oat bean I can find in the supermarket. Some feed stores and health food stores also carry it. It costs me about £1 per bag and none of them poop in it so I just change it out every few weeks :)

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
is tape safe for fixing something in my leopard geckos hide?
Day 3 of brumation. It's a struggle. I really miss my little guy. 😔
