A rescue's rescuers rant.

As I sit here with tears in my eyes, I can't help but feel alittle angry. Flipper has an appt with the vet tomorrow to be euthanized. He is so very sick and even if he does pull thru his mbd is so severe the quality of life will stink.
I met this dragon exactly 1 year ago, as a rescue by a friend. He had tremors and his girlfriend had a malformed jaw.calcium and lighting correct? I asked. Yep, don't worry about it. Fastforward - this fellow member of a herp club calls me and sez she can't take care of them anymore -do I want them. The male we now call flipper is shaped like a horseshoe and is too weak to fight off this infection he has going. But boy is he a fighter! For three months I have tried to build these two dragons up and become very fond of them. Now I am the one in tears because I care about them (and properly btw). I am angry and sad that this beautiful boy had to suffer at the hands of a rescuer and collector. My fault for putting myself in this position I guess. I would do it again. For the critters sake.

I am so sorry, we become quite attached to these little critters. At the very least he knew that he was well loved and cared for in his final months. Thank you from all of us here at bd.org for giving him a taste of good quality living. I wish you the best with your female in the future.

Awwww, poor thing. It's hard to let go of animals. I had to go through this so many times when my mum rescued cats, it was awful. I came really attached to a showshoe cat with one eye. She was about 7 and she had a AIDS test and she tested positive and i was so sad. I cried and cried.



You are doing the right thing. May he rest in peace in the land of unlimited crickets. RIP Flipper. May you rest in peace.

You took good care of him and tried to help him. You've made this last part of his life so much better than he's ever had! I'm so very sorry you and Flipper are going thru this! May his pain be over and his afterlife be wonderful! Flipper knows you love and care about him!

My christmas miracle, Flip looked so much better the next morning that he is still here.I didn't bring him in. he continues to improve every day and is almost done with the antibiotics. We're still not outta the woods but its looking up. I sat up with him on christmas eve and just held him. I dont know what the future is but for now he is resting comfortably, this little dragon has more fight in him than anyother animal i have ever seen!

I read your post yesterday and it touched my heart. I sat here sadly crying that you had to make kind of a decision and lose your sweet Beardie because of someone elses gross neglect! Just now I read that he's still here and doing a bit better and my tears fell again! I'm so happy for you and Flipper! He really is your Christmas Miracle! Please keep us posted and I'm saying a prayer for him that he can get by this infection even though he needs special help due to his MBD.

Flip continues to improve. His beard is getting lighter everyday. He tried to walk around on my chest while I gsve him his meds this afternoon. When I feel brave enough i will post pics of him. Its hard to look at and I wonder if I did the right thing by keeping him alive. thank you everyone for the wishes. I truly believe that it helps.

I love all beardies no matter their disabilities or illnesses! Speaking for myself and I suspect many others I'd love to see pics of your sweet little Flipper. You are wonderful for taking such good care of him and trying to help him. I'm still saying a prayer for him!

That's great that Flipper has improved some. You must be so pleased. He sure DOES sound like a real fighter, you are too, keep up the great work!

Look at that face - its so sassy. His beard is still alittle black but is much better than before. He still has dried mucus on the corners of his mouth in the morning. I just hope he continues to improve.
