hi all.. i'm not sure i'm posting this in the right place so mods feel fee to move... i also think i know what answers i'll get but i need some reassurance as the title says...
first off - this is widget
SDC12052.jpg

and this is his/her story.. we rehomed him from the sspca (an animal charity here in scotland). he had been removed from his previous owners after a week, had been sold by a pet shop too young with a sibling nip to his tail... due to bad husbandry and inexperience his tail got infected and had to be removed, he was on critical care for two weeks at the sspca and after gettin a clean bill of health we took him in last thursday (9 days ago)... we don't know an exact age but estimate about 15 weeks and he's about 4-5 inches
his set-up is perfect, correct temps, uv, on tile etc
for the 1st two days with us he was a proper wee pig, eating 10-15 small crix twice a day and even plenty of greens, i know it's relocation stress but for the last week he's eaten maybe one or two crickets each feeding and a nibble of greens at most... when i bath him he'll lick drops of water off my finger and he's still poopin everyday so i know he's not dehydrated or impacted.. it's just worrying and a wee bit stressful that he won't eat.. i know i should give him time but how much more before i should be getting seriously worried? with all he's been through already i don't want to take the risk of him getting too weak or losing any weight..

i think it's stressing me so much because our other beardie corinthian (who we got as an adult) would actually eat til he burst if we let him so i've never had this kind of experience before..

on the upside, he's very happy to be handled for short periods and his colours always lighten up as soon as he's out the tank, loves a wee explore around the sofa and the last two nights has been happy to snuggle on me for a bit til he falls asleep..

sorry this is so long-winded but as i say, i just need some reassurance! thanks for looking
emma :)

One thing you can try is some different feeders. My baby really likes dubia roaches and reptiworms but is terrified of crickets.

thanks for the replies.. i thought about that, at the rescue centre they were feeding him small locusts and very small mealworms :? i did try puttin a locust in his tank the first day but he totally ignored it (prob cos he'd just grubbed out on loads of crix) it then escaped and tbh, thats not an experience i wish to repeat! i really can't stand them!

he ate 2 mealworms today, i know they're not good for babies.. but i raked around in the box til i found some freshly shed ones that would be softer n he chewed them up pretty good.. i know he shouldnt be gettin them but its all i've been able to get him to eat today, it was a bit of a last ditch attempt and i didn't actually think he'd even take them... i tried feeding a cricket off the tongs, he totally backed away so he might be scared of them, but he ate them no bother for two days, so i dunno why he'd suddenly get that fear..

i'll try n get some reptiworm but i live in the uk and by all accounts they can be pretty hard to get a hold of over here.. as for dubias, my bf's flat had a pretty bad roach problem before i moved so under no circumstances am i allowed to bring them in the house! he was pretty damn clear on that! lol

Dubias aren't like normal house roaches, they can't jump, can't climb, and can't fly. They also don't stink or make noise. Use a big rubbermaid container with a heating pad underneath and your boyfriend won't even notice they're there.

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
is tape safe for fixing something in my leopard geckos hide?
Day 3 of brumation. It's a struggle. I really miss my little guy. 😔
