Monkey, Thanks for pointing the spots out on his pictures. I will check it out, he is basking right now after eating his crickets. Hopefully now that I am feeding him lots more crickets and feeding him them everyday he will grow up big and strong!! Hopefully he hasn't suffered any long term effects. I was just doing what I was told to do.

Thanks again!!

Dont worry he is not that thing, they are just showing slighty, wont take much to add that extra on him. And they are very strong creatures I doubt there will be any long term effects at all. He's a real cutie thats for sure :D

Thanks you guys!! I hope he will fatten up!! He should now that I know a little more!!

He really didn't touch his greens or pellett food yesterday (that was his first 40 cricket day) and he hasn't touched them today either (today he had around 30-40, they are hard to count when they move all around :) ). Should I be concerned about that or just focus on the protein now and he will eat his greens when he wants to? I am going to order the crickets online, is there any other live feeder I should try to get him?

Thanks!

(Time for a nap, worrying about him has made me sleepy!).

What I normally do to get beardies to eat their greens is...about an hour to hour and 1/2 after lights go on put salad in the viv. Normally I will hand feed a bite or 2 or at least try. Beardies will be more hungry in the morning after warming up usually. Then after they have hopefully eaten some salad I will offer live feeders. Mine kind of know now that if they don't eat their veggies mom won't give us bugs...not really but trickery is allowed with these little boogers. The sooner in life that beardies start eating veggies the better off their health and eating habits will be when they become adult.

Have a nice nap! :)

Hi what a handsome boy you got there! I feed greens first in the morning then worms. Using this method (thanks to Barb) I have the baby poppers feasting on greens! Looking at the pics provided I'd let him eat as much as he wants to in a 10 to 15 minute period.

Well, its been a week and I remeasured Spike. He is around 14" length. He weighs 7.55 oz (214 grams). So, that's up from 6.45 oz (182.85 grams).

So, I was wandering if 1.2 oz (31.15 grams ) weight gain is good for one weeK?

I still see the bones that Monkey was talking about (I think anyways). Here's some pictures to compare to the pictures from 5-18-10 post.

What do you guys think?

Christina have you tried hornworms? I have a couple of beardies that really put on the weight in the past week due to all the horns they have eaten. However 31.15 grams in a week is an amazing amount.

We just received our 500 crickets from Ghanns. I really don't like crickets!! I am glad we don't have to go get crickets for awhile. Hopefully we will get our roaches from the roach guy tomorrow and we won't have to go shopping for live feeders!! I don't know where to get hornworms. Where do you get them? If you think 31.15 is a good weight gain, I am glad.

I am so excited to hear you say his weight gain is good!! I just received our roaches, so I am off to the store to purchase a 30 gallon tote to keep them in.

It's great you got some roaches. I absolutely HATE roaches, but my dubia bin isn't going anywhere. Ever.

if you let it get rolling, you could almost never buy feeders ever again. You will have a very spoiled dragon though.

Don't worry about any long term effects, he'll be fine. Beardies are very resilient. I've rescued a 130 gram adult and put 230 on him in three months.

He is noticeably plumper already.

Spike's weekly weight update-

1st week- 182.85 g (6.45 oz)

2nd week- 214 g (7.55 oz) weight gain of 31.15 g

This week- 245 g (8.65 oz) weight gain of 31 g

I think he is doing great!! However, he seems to have lost interest in his crickets after he has gotten the dubias roaches. So, I have tons of crickets that I received from Ghann's and I think they are going to go to waste. I cannot wait for dubias colony to start thriving.

Have a great week.

Glad to hear your beardie is doing so well!

As far as the roaches go, my beardie gets a diet of dubias, crickets, and superworms. I'm just using supers and crickets to supplement while my dubia colony starts producing. He LOVES the dubia, and while he eats about 30-40 crickets, or about 10 supers, he only needs about 5-6 dubia before he's nice and full.

They're such a pleasant alternative to the other feeders. I bought 1000 nymphs in january, About half of them are now adults, and I should be seeing babies soon. As soon as those babies are running around I will feed off everything else and rely solely on dubia.

I also do the same method of greens in the morning and bugs in the afternoon. I didn't read this anywhere. I just noticed that if I put salad in the morning, he'll eat all of his salad, and if I put bugs in the morning he ignored his salad. So I said alright, you get salad in am and bugs in the evening. I now know he's getting a balanced meal.

When you say you bought 1000 nymphs, do you mean baby roaches? I bought the biggest starter kit to start my colony and then also bought ones to feed right away. Where did you buy them from? Do you heat there enclosure? What do you keep them in? Currently mine are in a 35 gallon tote, not heated.

How old is your beardie? Spike is about 10 months old. What size of dubias does your beardie eat (5-6) then he's full?

Thanks.

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
is tape safe for fixing something in my leopard geckos hide?
Day 3 of brumation. It's a struggle. I really miss my little guy. 😔
Mirage entered brumation yesterday, I'm gonna miss hanging out with my little guy.
