A few questions

Hey everyone...it's been about 3 years since ive been active on here...had to postpone getting my beardie for financial reasons and now after 2 job changes, 2 moves, getting married and other stuff I'm finally looking to get a beardie again. Just had a few questions...I figure some things have changed a bit so I was just wondering what the best UVB lighting to use. I think I had bought a mega ray bulb if I remember correctly...wasn't sure if that was still the way to go. The enclosure will be a crossfire type design either 4x2x2 or 5x2x2 if that helps. I'll be reading through the posts and refreshing a bit on the care but any help would be appreciated. I think I still have some tile for the floor and other odds and ends but will be starting from scratch on most of it. Gotta look at getting a dubia colony going again as well! Thanks!

Oh and I remember there was a lady on here who made custom blankets and sleeping bags I think...wasn't sure if she still did or was still around on the forum anymore but if anyone knows who I'm talking about it would be appreciated.

Hi, and welcome back.. The UVBs to use are the Reptisun 10.0 tube, NOT the coil, r the arcadia 12%, I have no clue on the MVB type bulbs, I understand they put out both heat and uvb, but Ive read mixed things on them, so Im personally steering clear of them... Also, theres an ad in the for sale section where they are selling baby beardies and a colony of dubia for 90 plus shipping...great deal. So you may want to talk to them.. Ive got 2 babies and a colony being shipped today from them So excited. So, if your wanted to get one sooner rather than later you could check them out. Im not sure one the lady who makes the blankets...srry.

Thanks for the info on the lighting...I'll look into those you mentioned. Gonna be skittle bit of a wait on the beardie otherwise that is a good deal on the beardie and dubias! Still gotta build the enclosure and get all the supplies together. Plus we'll have a baby coming this nov/dec so that will keep me busy for awhile! Lol Figure the dubias will have a few months to start getting established at least.

And congrats on the new babies getting shipped today!

Thanks, were very excited And yes it is a great deal... But you are way better off letting ur colony get going 1st. I nvr even heard of dubia, and made the mistake of getting some 1st to make sure my dragon would eat them, lol... then he pretty much refused crix after that, and trust me buying enough roaches to last week to week is EXPENSIVE, lol. And CONGRATS on the baby And yea theyll keep you busy for the rest of ur life, Ive got an 8 and a 4 y/o.. And they are def handfuls most of the time, lol. I would suggest making sure you know all the risk of salmonella that comes with owning a reptile when having a very young child, and just make sure you take every precaution, i.e. wash your hands a lot... not saying u dont wash ur hands, lol. but def be very careful... I think theres some sort of an article when you first get to this site about it, the top ones about the guiness world record oldest dragon, then i think the one under it is about the salmonella, I havent read it personally, but it is something very serious to consider.

Lol yeah I'm sure I'll be busy for a long time with the baby coming! And yes I read up alot on the salmonella risk associated with reptiles and will be very careful

I figure at least I'll stay busy while we are buried in snow here over the winter with the baby and building the enclosure!
