My mom who lives in rural San Diego sent me a couple pics of a baby horny toad they found this morning. I was surprised to see how much it resembles our beardies. She's reluctant to let it go because they have a lot of road runners and owls around their place and she doesn't want it to get eaten. It is so adorable! If it's possible to domesticate them I might have her try to send it my way ;)

A couple interesting facts about horned lizards: They can shoot blood out of their eyes when threatened, and the spikes on their heads are actual horns, as in made of bone instead of pointy scales like beardies :)

Hehe I know I was already looking at caresheets for them! They seem to be pretty similar to beardies...except their main diet is harvester ants  and it doesn't look like they eat less as they get older...one of the sheets said 20-100 ants a day, lol >.<

lllretiles sells ants online with a small shipping fee.

theres the link

There is also a little care guide they provide at that same link, its really helpful, seeing how not all horned lizards actually eat ants,

Oh I know she already let it go. If I lived in CA still I definitely would have kept him, but I don't want to burden my mom with taking care of him for a couple days and then have to ship him out to me, so I was only wistfully thinking I could keep him ;) It's a shame too, considering lllreptiles is probably 10 minutes from her place, lol.

That's a cool looking little guy.

A friend of mine lives in North Carolina and we caught a albino gecko there, he still has it and it's an awesome lizard.

Oh my, well a friend of mine who does some enviromentalist checking at construction sites has been finding a few and sending me the pics. She got a pair of some basking together and their horns are so huge I couldn't believe it. I'll have to get those up later today :)

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
is tape safe for fixing something in my leopard geckos hide?
Day 3 of brumation. It's a struggle. I really miss my little guy. 😔
Mirage entered brumation yesterday, I'm gonna miss hanging out with my little guy.
