Hello all,
My 7 month old male bearded dragon hasn't ate properly in a while. About a month ago, he was diagnosed with coccidia and pinworms, he was on Baycox and Panacur. I have him retested last week and the faecal came back negative for both. He also had a negative cryptosporidiosis. However, he hasn't been eating properly since this. For example, he will eat maybe 1 or 2 crickets, then not eat for a few days. The vet thought that it was unnecessary to perform an adenovirus test as she said he appears too healthy-looking to be adeno positive, as I know that this test costs around £100. The vet that I go to is a herp specialist and part of the University of Edinburgh (Scotland) veterinary school.
He lives in a 4 X 1.5 X 1.4 tank, with a 100 w komodo basking lamp which produces 95-100 F at the basking spot and around 70 F at the coolest spot. This bulb was recommended by my vet. He has a 12% Arcadia + D3 UVB bulb. Substrate is vinyl kitchen flooring. The vet suggested that I add a night time heat source so I added a 13 w heat mat to the back wall. I can't afford a ceramic heater
I give him regular baths, also he eats bits of veg willingly but when I put him in a separate box with the crickets he acts like the crickets aren't there. I have tried him with calci worms too. He is 16 inches long but only weighs 204 g as of last week. Vet said he is quite underweight.
As well as not eating he is scratching in corners, the glass, the walls - constantly. I know that this can be to do with temperatures being too high but even when I had a normal lightbulb a few weeks ago (when I was waiting on my komodo bulb arriving) and it was only producing about 91-93 F, he was still doing this. He is very active in the morning but as the day goes on he just sits in the same position and sometimes sits with his eyes closed. The vet examined him full body and said his eyes, nose, ears, inside the mouth all looks perfectly fine and that his skin was fine. She said she could feel no lumps or swellings on the inside, and the only thing that she could find wrong is that he is underweight. All of this started when I moved to Aberdeen which was about 6 weeks ago.
What can I do/what could be wrong with him?
