I have a 9 month old Bearded Dragon, which would make her a Juvenille.

I'd read from many sources that they should be offered 50-100 crickets per day.!?

Is that true? How do you afford to feed your beardies?

Here, it costs $2.24 for 20 crickets.. .10 cents each is the cheapest I have found...

Usually I feed Yoshi about 5-6 two times per day as well as her salad with calcium powder. (she only eats her salad if it has Celery leaves in it!! lol)

Shes growing, shes grown over 7 inches since i've adopted her...

Actually, the best thing you can do for a dragon of that age is quit feeding it crickets altogether. They're just too small for the dragon and, when you're looking at that many crickets going into a dragon's tummy, you have to consider the amount of chitinous shell, which is mostly indigestible, going into your baby.

What you should do for your wallet, your sanity, and your dragon's feeding pleasure is buy some TROPICAL ROACHES. :blob5: :blob8:

I know, I know, they're a roach. Yuck, right? :puke: But consider this:

They can't infest your home.
They don't reproduce all that well at less than 82 degrees.
Dubias aren't very fast so if you drop one, you can catch it.
Unlike the dreaded common cockrach, they can't survive just eating anything (like wallpaper paste, animal dander, etc.). They eat pretty much what we do, especially fruit, so if your house is clean, they couldn't survive due to lack of food.
They don't stink.
There's way more meat per roach as a percent of body weight (less chitin) than a cricket.
Your dragon will eat far fewer roaches because roaches are bigger. I have concluded based on personal experience (I used to breed crix and had 5000+ on hand at any given time) that roaches are more cost-effective.
They don't make noise.

They are both excellent roach breeders, can pack them to survive Chicago and Michigan winter weather, and are scrupulously honest. You can see how many dragons I have in my tagline. I've sent them both several hundred dollars before and I always get exactly what I've ordered and then some.

I hate insects personally and especially hate roaches. I bred crickets for a year before I finally tried a roach. But I will NEVER look back.

There are several other good feeders, particularly hornworms, phoenix worms and silkworms, but they are more expensive than roaches. I give them as a treat now and again, but roaches are the basis of my feeding program.

Give them a try. Well, not personally  :D If you can build up the nerve, you'll be happier in the long run.

And no, I don't get a thing for recommending Marcus or Ian. I'm just a satisfied customer.

I definatly agree with frank... I just recently moved to roaches and really they arent as bad as i thought they would be... i wasnt sure how you would feel about roaches so i decided to not bring it up, but my baby enjoys them as well... I dropped on yesterday  the good news is i put my foot infront of it and i guess it thought i couldnt see it and it stopped moving long enough for me to grab him, and you dont have to use your hands, get you some tongs to get them out with if you need... i needed mine for about 3 days but like i say, they arent so bad... I also hear wonderful things about Ian...i dont know the other guy, but i have talked with Ian about roaches and he has been soooooo sweet answering all my stupid questions ahahha

Roaches are definately a good choice, just takes a while to establish a colony. And while they are establishing, you will most likely still need crickets, so ya buy bulk from a trusted cricket farm and you will save some money, and i now have a full grown adult bearded dragon and never once did i feed 30+ crickets a day, i fed 30 at most a day, but probably not even that much. That many is not necessary in my opinion.

Roaches rock, i split mines meat diet between dubia roaches and superworms. Bulk orders or supers are cheap as all hell. You can get 1000 from greatlakeshornworm.com for like 18$ + shipping. you just keep the in oatmeal and feed them baby carrots or apples or potatos. You can look up how to care for dubia on this site quite easaily.

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
is tape safe for fixing something in my leopard geckos hide?
