Hi I'm new to this site about a month ago I bought a beardie (hypo zero approx. 4-5 months old) he barely comes out of his hide on his own he will only eat a worm or two if I take him out of his hide and lay the worm at his feet..first few days he would eat a mouthful of greens now not much..he stays in his hide all day I took him out of his hide yesterday because he wasn't coming out on his own and he stayed out for hours and his head shed..he went back into his hide last night and hasn't emerged yet, lights went on at 6am it is now 210pm..Advice? Temps are 110 at highest point in basking area approx 6 inches from lamp ..87-90 in middle Floor of tank and 77 floor cool side. Can he be brumating took him to vet had pinworms and mild coccidia vet said all dragons do ..He treated with 4 doses of ponazuril...please help I'm at my wits end.

Hi there,

Could you post pictures of your setup and your dragon?

Who did you buy him from?

What are you using for a uv source? And what distance is it from the basking site?

How long ago did he finish his meds? Did the meds make him act any different at all?

Hes been like this almost since we bought him .We got him from a breeder Herebdragons . He finished meds on friday. Uvb is t5 10.0 placed on top of tank approx. 8-10 inches from basking log...I took him out this morning and 3 minutes later he went back in.

His setup looks good. It's fairly similar to mine. Has he been losing weight? He looks like he's basking and alert in the photos which is encouraging.

If I take him out of his hide he will bask and stay out for a short period of time but eat very little yesterday he ate I raspberry and 1 silk worm ...he was out today at 7am and back in hide by 1 . He is not losing weight but only gained 5 grams in a month...he has not grown or shedding

It's good that he isn't losing weight. That's often a sign of illness so keep monitoring that. He is young for brumation but the symptoms line up. What are the surface temps around his enclosure? If the temps are off it could cause him to want to hide. A vet visit with maybe a blood test would help reveal system functions and possibly uncover a hidden issue. As long as his weight is stable and his temps are in a good range then I'd be inclined to offer food and observe for now and if he wants to hide let him hide.

I neglected to mention that he had both coccidia and pinworms vet treated coccidia with ponazuril and said pinworm count was nothing to worry about . He had 4 doses over the course of 8 days the last day being friday..I want to say this hasn't changed his behavior at all hes been acting this way since he was brought home. I'm wondering if I should be taking him out when he hiding so he eats and basks or let him do his thing.

Meds can make them act lethargic but you would have noticed it as a change from before the meds were given. It sounds like this behavior was happening before the meds. It may be worth offering a probiotic https://bug-de-lite.com/Item/Reptophilus but I don't know that it will alter his behavior.

I have been giving probiotics as well as calcium and vitamin on what little food he eats. Do you think I should just let him be and not disturb him or should I take him out when hiding to see if he wants food and to bask. So weird all temps are good ubv is tested and only a month old . Temps are 100 to 106 on basking spot 86 to 91 hot side 75 to 80 cool side. This is driving me nuts ...just wanna to the best I can for my little guy.

Yeah your setup sounds just right to me. It's really kind of a gut call on disturbing him or not. It probably wouldn't be all that stressful to him if you bring him out to offer food and bask but maybe not too often. Perhaps you could try setting up a portable basking light somewhere in the house and offer him some food there. Maybe the scenery change would help.

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
