Hi all,

Ok we might be taking in another Beadie. There is a lady that looks after lizards when you go on holiday and she rescues ones too. Now she has been looking for a home of this one female beardie and seeing I am busy making a new Viv for my boy my fiancee decided to try convince me we should take in the rescue in the old viv. So just to be clear they will be housed in their own enclosures.

But my question is, my boy is the king of the house, he gets to sit w ith us, by the window and when is in the mood, walk about a bit. From a socializing and handling perspective, how aggressive might he be should we take the female out at the same time? Any advice from those that own more than one beardie? Can more than one beardie roam around at the same time? I am close to giving in and taking her in, I just don't want my boy to loose out on his freedom. (Daddy's boy I know)

Btw he seems to like her. When we were there the lady briefly put the two of them out together and he started showing his colors and tried to attract her attention without gunning for her.

Thanks,
Erick

I generally take mine out separately. You could have them both out together you'll just have to keep a close I and monitor them to make sure he isn't being to aggressive.

I take mine out seperately. A male only needs seconds to pin down and mate with a female. A male will always perk up and show color in the presance of a female. If she was a rescue, I would deff keep them seperate to you establish she has no parasites and isnt sick with something that might sneak up on you.

I must agree with TheWolfmanTom. The only time any of my males and females are out at the same time is for breeding purposes. A male is very quick at mounting his target an if at this time of year you put a female in front of a male he is going to take it in just seconds.

TheWolfmanTom has a very very good point about quarantining the new beardie. This is a very good practice to get into all new beardies should not come in contact with your already existing pet beardies for a minimum of 30 days is best. Personally I wouldn't until all test result come back from vet an you are 100% sure the new beardie is in good health.

Hi all,

Well the rescue lady arrived this weekend for a trial visit. The lady who is trying to find her a home was kind enough to let us try things out. She is in my boy's old viv and my boy moved to his new viv today. She is a pretty little one and very sweet and curious.

My concern is more for my boy. He obviously spotted her in the other viv and has been going ballistic showing black beard, running around and bobbing with authority. Will this get better? He seems so obsessed try to get her attention I am worried it might be stressing him out. Any advice?

She hasn't been all innocent either, she is doing like sweet dance moves and waving at him, so seems like at least they quite fancy each other, just my boy got some hormonal issues :)

I hope it gets better as my Mrs is really keen on the lady but my decision will be how my boy deals with this. I don't want him to become crazy. He is lying next to me in bed on his mother's pillow taking a break... actually he is dozing off...

How does others keep more than one beardie? Similar problems out there? :study:

Thanks,
Erick

I have 90% of my tanks placed so adults cannot see each other directly. I have also put paper over parts of the tank to limit visability when that didnt work.

I've done the same sort of thing. We have 3 females, their tanks are side by side in the living room. We also have 2 males, one tank is in the dining room behind the couch that's in the living room and parts of his tank are covered with paper so he can't see the females. Our other male has a large tank in the 2nd bedroom in our apartment. They all get "out of the tank time", separately, but whoever's out can see females in their tanks. Sometimes I cover the females tanks when the males are out so the males don't go absolutely hormonal mad just looking at them. So that's what we do. You can put the tanks side by side, just so they can't see each other, that would work. Good luck with your little lady & have fun with both of them! :D :D

We have 4 adults and we have to make it where they cant see eachother because they go nuts. If one of the males is out roaming they like to tick off the other beardies or try and fight thru the viv glass. I dont sugest having more than one out at a time due to possable fighting. Things can happen in a blink then you will beat yourself up if a injury accours. Im a safty kind of girl lol

I just set Swordtail's timer for his bath and paused it so I could actually fill his soaking bowl up and he crawled over my phone and canceled the timer 🤣
Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
