I had done an RIP page before, in one of the very first calendars. But we had far fewer people to submit pictures. So, unfortunately, I think I will have to go with beardies that are with us today. If one just recently passed, I don't mind if you submit a pic of them, but I'll include the name like all the others. I simply get way too many images as it is. Last year, I ended up with so many I had to make two calendars just to find ways to make them fit.
It's a great shot... I would have considered it as a potential for a main full page image, except the beardie is REALLY close to the top of the image. I like to leave some buffer on that area, because the hole for the calendar ends up being RIGHT there. If you have any as sharp and clear, that are similar in look, but with a little more buffer around the edges, that would be perfect. heh.
You said above that you would be limited to doing things to pics that are too zoomed in. I took a very nice picture of Duke, but it just shows his head and a very small part of his back. Would that be too zoomed in?
@spurlee01: I do like the other one better. It's useable.. just not for the full page one (but again, it would only go into the pool of possible choices, not definitively so). Also vertical shots are also difficult to work with (will require cropping) and not usable for full page options, since the page is not a vertical layout.
@dukee11: Hard to say. Good rule of thumb is to ask yourself, "can this be reasonable cropped into a square?"
@Everyone: Please take your best guess for what is a good shot, and what is usable. Ask yourself, can this be cropped into a square and still be a usable image. As some of the tips say in the first post, look for quality specifics. One of the biggest ones is FOCUS. Try to take shots where the focus is only your beardie's face (eye is an ideal focus point). One key mistake people make is to get too close to the beardie with the camera, such that the camera can't focus so close. Stay at least 12 inches back (unless you know you have a lens that can focus closer). Even better, backup a little more, and zoom in a little. Leave room around the border (don't zoom in too much). Set your camera for the highest quality JPEG.
I can't keep pre-approving everyone's images (always starts to go down that path on the thread). So, please use your best judgment. If I do end up with one that is not usable, I will usually email you to get an alternative. But it helps for me to post a post like this (have done so in previous years), just reminding people of key tips that make it easier for me to use the submitted images.
And remember.. you can submit TWO of each bearded dragon you have. That also gives me choice to use the one that is most usable.
Get those images submitted!!!! I have 18 emails so far... I expect I'll have anywhere from 100-200 emails by time the deadline hits, if past years have been any indicator! And I will need to be a stickler for the cut off date (October 31) in order to give myself time enough to get it completed in time for holiday orders.
sry about that post i was trying to but it somewhere on here but this post. but i emailed you the pic to you i hope you like them. i just took them, becouse i was playing with my new cam.
O my.... I almost missed this!!! Kazi-mans head is going to be DEMENTED with me snapping pics of him for the next week... better get the camera all charged up!! woo woo!!
Last question (promise) I have a series of shots that I retook (same shot, just different angles, cropping, etc) do you want me to pick what I think is best or send you a couple of the best so you can decide which one would be best suited for the calendar?
Sara: I'm not sure I understand your question, but I think the answer is yes. You pick the two best pictures you have of your beardie (same photo shoot, different photo shoot; doesn't matter). The two best should be sent to me. I decide in the end which ones fit best into the layout for the calendar.
You said there would be more than one calender if need be due to the amount of pics you get , are you going to let us know witch one our little monster is in? just so we know witch one to purchase
