2+ weeks, no poop... ideas? help?

Hey all.

I've got a beardie who's just under a year old now, about 18" long. He has been slowing down going into winter here in Oregon, and was eating less (seemed normal). We had to board him with a local herp shop for about 4 days over Christmas, but we provided our own housing/equipment. When we got him back, he had pooped in his cage; it has been now about 16 days since we got him back and in our place; he has not yet pooped, passed a urate or a seminal plug.

I've been giving him a bath and belly rub every day, feeding unsweetened applesauce and olive oil with a dropper, as well as watering him the same way. He's eaten superworms 3 times, about 8-15 good-sized worms at each feeding. He's also eaten kale, grated carrots, some romaine and redleaf lettuce over these two weeks or so (I always dust greens with calcium/vitamin powder). His behavior isn't abnormal, a little slower than usual, but it is winter and he's almost a year.

Setup: double-bulb basking fixture, warm side is about 100*F, basking spot always between 112*F- 120*F, cool side around 76*F to 80*F.
10" Reptisun tube light
Tile substrate and tile pyramid set up allowing him to climb/hide as he sees fit
Warming pad under his sleep spot, raises temps of tile to about 90*F in the evenings while he sleeps.

16(ish) DAYS...NO POOP. AT ALL.

But no strange behavior change, either! Still walking, runs around and chases my cats, no weird leg dragging/paralysis, no outside leg walking to indicate MBD, still snuggles with me and my wife at night when we watch tv, and still eats some things from my hands. No aggression, no lethargy (other than just slowing down a bit in winter).

Any ideas? If he looked like he was freaking out or acting sick, I'd bag him up to the vet. I haven't felt a hard spot during the belly rubs, and he basks regularly. I'd probably be freaking out if it weren't for the fact that he's acting completely normal, minus the pooping. For the first 10 months I had him, he was dooking daily.

If he doesn't move the mail by Thursday, I'll take him to the vet for a check-up.

He might need a little " laxative " , you can try applesauce, canned pumpkin [ with no spice ], baby food prunes, or veggie oil or a combo of some of these. You can also try giving him a soak that's a bit warmer and deeper than usual. He'll probably go soon. :)

It's a good sign that he's acting normally! Since he's slowed down a bit for the winter I wonder if his metabolism is just a bit slower as well.
As for poop-aids, either a warmer/deeper bath than usual or plain canned pumpkin always do the trick for my big guy (I haven't had to combine their powers yet, but I'm betting superbath + pumpkin would be pretty epic). What I'll usually do is give my beardie a big glob of pumpkin (he loves the stuff and will devour at least 1/4tsp) in the evening, and he'll leave me a present late morning or early afternoon the next day.
Good luck! :)

Thanks all. I've been doing the applesauce and olive oil from a syringe, I'm going to try the pumpkin and prunes next. He seems like he's slowly getting ready to fire out an epic fudgie and it's drivin me nuts.
If his behavior hadn't changed I'd be really freaked. Now it's just the waiting game. :banghead:

I would definitely try the pumpkin. Always works for me and I have a beardie with lots of pooping issues! Have you had him out running around? Exercise is actually a fantastic way to get the bowel's moving! If your beardie sits like a lump basking everyday so do his intestines! Also the vegetables your feeding him aren't really the best ones, there's a website called beautiful dragons that has a really good nutrition guide line for them (almost everyone here uses it to feed their babies). Good luck and happy pooping!

It's really helpful to read this. I'm in the same boat with Silver. I'm using the Stage one prunes with some olive oil mixed in. Also giving half hour baths twice a day. I would be more worried but her color, behavior and activity level don't indicate any problem. Good luck! It is a waiting game for sure.

Got results today....color and consistency were normal. Amount was epic. It took one day of prunes...2 next days prunes with olive oil....1/2 hr soaks twice a day for those three days with the water deeper and a little warmer than normal ....and this morning magic happened. I post this to hopefully make you feel better. Was hoping you got results too. I can't believe they can go that long without going and still be OK. Thinking of you and hope all is well.

Been doing pumpkin and baths every day for this week. No change, but again, doesn't seem to be uncomfortable or weirding out.

Taking him to the vet in an hour or two. Hopefully they can give me a little more info.
Thanks for the help, all! I'll let you know what the deal was.

Took him to the vet, they did a full checkup, with x-rays, and found no impactions, nothing bizarre. They did inform me that at 1lb, 6oz, he's "overweight," though that may have had to do with not pooping.

So they tell me to call with any q's and send me home with him. I put him back in his viv, and not 25 minutes later, bam-presto. The most enormous turd I've seen to date, with 4 separate seminal plugs, plus a urate (no joke) 3 inches long. He's now basking, running around in his viv, and generally being smug as all hell since he just cost me $159 dollars to find out he was okay.

It's worth it to know, of course, and they said he was beautiful, well-behaved, and "easily the healthiest and most cared for dragon we've seen come through here." I guess most people wait until their beardies are on death's door before they'll bag them up to the vet. I ain't rich, but if you're gonna keep an animal like a dragon, you need to be ready to pay a little more to keep it healthy. No sense not taking care of nice things.

Anyway, thanks all for the tips. One thing they suggested is that while he was being boarded, he was being fed a different brand of worm, and that may have explained the reduced eating. I took home the rest of the worms, which he ate sparingly. I've got him back to his regular brand, we'll see what happens.

Final question: since he's crapped the big one, is this a good time to kill the lights and let him brumate?

Lol....good to hear. Brought Silver to the vet the first time she went 7 days without. The vet picked her up and she pooped all over her. The unfazed vet collected specimen and all was fine.....What a first impression. After that I don't get too flustered just break out the poop aids!

Phoenix has been doing the same thing,I am in Oregon, also and he really has slowed down since September.
He went from pooping regularly every day to now maybe every 7-10 days,he has gone as long as 14 days without pooping.
He is eating much less also,I think their entire metabolism just slows down!

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
is tape safe for fixing something in my leopard geckos hide?
Day 3 of brumation. It's a struggle. I really miss my little guy. 😔
Mirage entered brumation yesterday, I'm gonna miss hanging out with my little guy.
