2 week BD owner thinking of getting Dubias??

Ive had my little Draco for about 2 1/2 weeks now, and I already hate the crickets. 12 bucks for 48 of them which are basically eaten in a day or 2. I was thinking of switching to dubia roaches.

Is it worth it since I only have 1 retile to feed them to? I was thinking instead of getting 10 males and 40 females and breeding them....that I'll just buy 500 or 1000 small nymphs at a time and not bother breeding...I worry that since I only have one lizard they will breed to fast and I won't be able to feed them off at the rate that they breed. Then I wouldn't know what to do with all the roaches I would have haha.

Your guises opinions? Should I just buy bulk now and then? Or breed? Remember I just have 1 beardie! And crix are to smelly and expensive!

Breeding them is cheaper, buying them is easier. They grow slowly so getting a colony runnig can take a little time. If you order bulk you can order more than something fast growing like crickets or silkworms. That way you just have as many as you need at a time. If you breed them you can probably sell the extras on craigslist. I hate paying shipping and te weather is rarely in my favor. Plus think they are neat so I still keep a colony even tho I don't feed so many.

I agree. Ive owned a beardie before and I just got two babies tonight. But I also owned about 50 tarantulas, 2 beardies, scorpions, etc.. And kept a colony of dare I admit 6,000+ dubia at once... And I started from maybe 300 about 3 years prior.. Granted I did add a few females and males to the mix and needed nymphs.. But crickets stink and bite in more ways than one... Also more meat to shell ratio, and more protein. Kinda like having a steak instead of a cheeseburger.... And easier to gutload... I always used water gel crystals to keep them watered too... Also if you're beardie is confused by them, you just pull their head off (I know it sounds awful and gross) but it is really much easier and not as difficult as crickets....

I just set Swordtail's timer for his bath and paused it so I could actually fill his soaking bowl up and he crawled over my phone and canceled the timer 🤣
Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
