I got another beardie I wasn't planning on getting at the show this past weekend, (white adult female for 150, what was I supposed to do? :D ) After 3 days I had a viv ready for her minus the mvb. I have been alternating the one I have for a few hours at a time between the two vivs (one has mvb, other gets a 120 watt household incandescent). I won't have the money for another mvb for another 7-10 days, As long as I keep alternating the lights and getting them outside for 30-45 minutes a day they should be ok right?
Please don't flame me, you'd have bought her too.

She is a very pretty girl :D

You will be fine with what you are doing. As long as they are getting the UVB(mvb or natural sun) and they have proper heat(for digestion)they will be okay!

No flames here  We all make impulsive buys now and then.... at least you are aware of the need for uvb and are taking care of it.

Congrats on your new beardie!

Thank you, I prefer to think of it not as an Impulse buy, but a planned purchase made about 6 months early. :laughhard:

What a beautiful dragon!! I am new to reptiles and my is 4 and half months old. We have only had him for two and half months. I have since been into a few pet stores in search of supplies and have to really stop my self from buying more beardies. I can't imagine seeing such a unique dragon and not picking it up. I am sure he will be fine for a few days doing what you are doing from what I have read on these boards and in books. Congrats on your new beardie!

Thank you, I knew when I stumbled across her, that she was coming home with me!
I was pretty sure I could make the light scenario work just wanted to make sure no one else had any bad experiences with this kind of thing. My beardies don't appreciate it too much, whoever loses their turn with the MVB gives me a look like "what the hell is wrong with you?" then stares at the pitiful household bulb and seems to say "I just got hosed!"

shes pretty and i won't flame you for buying her but will for wanting to breed if you can't afford a $50 light bulb. How in the world are you going to be able to afford 3-6 of those, feeders, and all other costs of breeding if you are struggling already?

Is it really worth stretching your budget even more thin when you are apparently living paycheck to paycheck already? More importantly, is it fair to them[babies]?

She will be bred in the spring, when I am set up for doing so. I sold my african cichlid colony (150 gallons worth) to make room in my budget for feeding and bought her a viv that I made back from the pet store so she'd have her own house and not have to wait for me to make one. Had my wife not had to get a love bird I'd have got a light at the show. I am a highly responsible pet owner as my pets did not ask me to buy them (although that is arguable with my Creamcicle corn snake) I will have crix on breeding schedule and am going to start another roach colony, so no after spending $410.00 I wasn't planning on spending for a few more months I don't have the money for a new MVB as I have a wife, 2 sons, 2 dogs, 3 cats, a savanna monitor, 2 cornsnakes, and now 2 beardies and a love bird.

Well it sounds like you at least have a plan which is more than most people on here considering breeding. Don't take what i said personally or with offense as it was really only an opinion, observation, and perspective.

It's all good, I didn't take it personally, I just come across that way sometimes.

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
is tape safe for fixing something in my leopard geckos hide?
Day 3 of brumation. It's a struggle. I really miss my little guy. 😔
Mirage entered brumation yesterday, I'm gonna miss hanging out with my little guy.
