Our 9 year old son wanted a reptile for his birthday (he changed his mind which one every week). We saw a baby Bearded Dragon at Petco (I know!! I know!!) and had to have it. We got a 40 gallon tank from a friend and bought some stuff from Petco (including Calci-sand!!). They gave us some basic advise and sold us a 150W red heat bulb and a 20w ESU bulb. All wrong! We did some reading and talked to a few people and took out the Calci-sand the next day! The current substrate will be another topic. The next weekend we went to a local Herp show and bought a 100w Power-Sun MVB (still use the ESU bulb for additional lighting).
"Lizzy" is almost 3 months old now, 50g and 10.5" long, and growing 1" a week for the last month!!
Our 6 year old son was feeling left out, so at the Herp show we bought him a Veiled Chameleon, a screen cage and accessories.
"Pim" is now about 4 months old, 34g and 8" long.
Since Pim (and most Chameleons) aren't very friendly (he bit me last week!) we decided we should get him a Beardie too.
We went to the Animal Planet Expo a couple of weeks ago and met a woman with a 3 year old Beardie who had (70) 4 week old babies at home for sale. We were her first customer! We put him in a 10 gallon tank (left over from former mice), a 3 bulb combo fixture with a repti-sun 8.0 & a 60w incandescent bulb. We got a 40 gallon tank at Petco today (all tanks on sale, $1 per gallon), and will set him up in it in the next few days.
"Jake" is 5 weeks old, 7g and 5.5" long.
I'm working on designing a stacked double tank (4' x 2' x 2') to be built over the winter. I'm waiting to see how Nomad85's tank comes out!
