My female has been acting a little strange, glass surfing, limited appetite, so I was going to set up a lay bin for her within the next couple days...I've had her for under a year and I have no idea what her history was before I got her, only that her viv had fallen from its shelf and shattered with her in it (fairly, she's very untrusting of me and the vacuum, hates heights and to be taken out of her enclosure, and I'm assuming her stunted growth is from the trauma) and her owners brought her back to the pet store instead of setting up a new cage for her...in their hands I might add, and didn't even secure her in some kind of travel tub or anything.

I'm worried that if she does lay eggs, they could possibly be fertile as I've heard of bearded dragons retaining sperm for up to a year, however she's only a little over two so I'm not sure if she could have possibly even been around other dragons, and I certainly have not let her near my super aggressive male and contact with my other dragon has been completely supervised although she doesn't really socialize well with others.

I'm really not prepared to have a whole clutch of little monsters and I know people around me don't really keep many exotic pets so it would be hard to re-home them to good people.

Is there a way to tell if the eggs are fertile, should she lay them? What do you do with infertile eggs? How do you find homes for clutches of babies?

Bearded dragons are smart lizards, they will remember everything that happens.
The best way to know if she has eggs, is to feel her tummy and below, you will feel bumps like something bumpiyish!
But, if you like to make sure vets visit is always good, to make sure she really do have eggs, or is she just being a female dragon! :)
I recently posted something similar, I thought she was pregnant with eggs, it it turned out my dragon is overweight!
I hope this helps :)

I doubt that she was mated a year ago and most would never store sperm for that long anyway. As Beardielover said, sometimes fertile eggs can be felt as they get close to full term before laying and can even be seen sometimes as lumps along the side of the stomach. Infertile eggs are different, they are usually soft flabby [ like a half filled water balloon] and can't really be seen or felt most of the time.

Here's more info about eggs + laying :

Thanks for your advice -- I felt her tummy this morning while her cage was still warming for the day (re: she doesn't like her space invaded or being held so I can only really handle her when she's still a little chilly from night time) and I couldn't feel lumps but she's a little pudgier than normal, which is why I felt like she was going to need a lay bin. It's possible that I don't really know her well enough, she sort of brumated this winter, so maybe this is just her post brumation behavior?

my dragons never brumated before! (i have weird dragons) she could be possibly pregers, or she need to poo. i would give her a warm bath, maybe she will be more relaxed and if she does poo you can feel her tummy see if there is any bumps! :)
sometimes, impacted dragons will have a bump in their intestent that they try to get out, makes them bigger then usual! :)

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
is tape safe for fixing something in my leopard geckos hide?
Day 3 of brumation. It's a struggle. I really miss my little guy. 😔
