I use a textured spray paint. It's black with flecks of white/grey in it. I was a little worried about fumes but once I put the sealer on and let it dry in the sun for a couple days it's been great.
Basically the rice sock is a pillow for beardies You can put it in the microwave for about 30 seconds and it gets nice and warm. I heat it up for Vinny after her baths and before bedtime, it provides great night time warmth. They are also wonderful if you have to transport your beardie somewhere (to the vet or where ever). I also just think Vinny finds it comfortable to lay on :wink:

I love the textured look! That is definitely the way I would rather go if I can find the stuff. Do you happen to remember the brand name and color of the spray paint? So you don't think it is bad/poisonous once the sealer is on? What type of sealer did you use. I went to my local home depot store and couldn't find the 100% non toxic acrylic sealant. They said there wasn't even such a thing...but people on this site and others say that there is. Maybe if I had a brand name. Hmmm. Anyways...awesome job!!

I think that is absolutely ADORABLE that Vinny has a little comfort pillow. That has got to be one of the cutest things ever. Next time she curls up with it you MUST take a pic!! And then post it of course!! Vinny seems to be a very lucky beardie!!

I can't remember the brand of the paint, I will find out for you though. Same goes for the sealer. Actually, if you post in the DIY board about beardie safe sealers I'm sure you get a number of suggestions, when I built my rocks that's where I got my info. I'm all for the textured rocks too, she is shedding on her face/head right now and yesterday I caught her rubbing her face against the rocks, she was very pleased when she discoverd this!

In the last picture of Vinny on top of the rocks, look at what she has her hand/foot on....I put that there in hopes she could use it as a pillow and she does! I always see her laying on top flattened right out, legs stretched and her head on the built in 'head rest'
