I have a very sweet 18 month old male beardie that I need to find a home for. Similar to other posts here, I'd rather give him to someone who knows how to care for him than sell him on craigslist to someone who would not care for him properly. I was one of those people when I got him, but did my research, and I can assure you that he is well cared for and loved. However, his "cricket habit" is getting harder to fund. I would give all my supplies including a 25 gallon long tank that at the moment has almost 1,000 crickets in it. He is in a 40 gallon breeder tank now with a heat lamp and UV lamp that I just replaced the bulb in last weekend.

He is not fond of his veggies, but I try to get him to eat them anyway. He will eat parsley, basil, bananas and strawberries. (Won't touch pellets ever - but I have some if you want them.) He loves when I sing to him, but I figure he must be tone deaf because I'm not much of a singer. He is about 17" from the tip of his nose to the tip of his tail.

I'd rather not ship him because I feel like that is too stressful on animals. Thanks to anyone who has ideas for me.

Just out of curiosity, are you getting rid of him because of the cost of crickets? May I suggest that you try roaches? They are relatively cheap to start breeding and are more nutritious than crickets.

I wish you luck on finding your guy a home. Do you have any pictures?

Not 10 minutes after I posted this, I got an e-mail from a friend who is interested in taking him. She has had beardies for 7 years and has a female, so I feel comfortable that he would be going to a good home.

The cost is the main factor for me, but there is also my 3 cats. Two of them are uninterested, but the third has started getting up on the dresser where Spikey is. I can see that turning into a problem. We just got the third a few days ago - my husband's weakness.

Anyway, I love this site. Even though I don't post much, I like the articles and discussions. Thank you for responding to me so quickly and for the suggestion. If the arrangement falls through, I will try roaches. Thank you for the suggestion.

I'm so sorry you have to let your beardie go, but I understand your worry. A lot of cats seem to ignore the beardies, (there are a total of 7 cats in the household here, but they are out numbered by the beardies and mind their manners) but one that is focused on a beardie can do some horrible things, even if you take the best precautions. Have you tried a quick spray of water when the cat is approaching the beardie? Sometimes, a little water has a powerful effect! I hope it works out well with whatever you decide.

I'm sorry it took me so long to post. The lady that I thought would be perfect ended up not working out. Please keep me in mind if anyone hears of a good home in NH that would like to add to their Beardie family. He's very sweet and seems to love being held.

Thank you everyone for your suggestions. I'm sad to let him go, but I really believe it will be the best move.

I would be interested if we could get the beardie train going. I'm in NC though.

I have cats also who get yelled at CONSTANTLY... :) just this morning one of them was ontop of the cage looking in but I don't let Lindy loose when the cats are around.

I'm sorry again. My forum etiquitte is slipping. Spike went to a WONDERFUL home to someone in this community a few weeks ago. We found out that he is a she in the process. I want to thank everyone for the support I received here both while Spike lived with me and in the process of finding him (her) a new home.

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
is tape safe for fixing something in my leopard geckos hide?
Day 3 of brumation. It's a struggle. I really miss my little guy. 😔
