My 3 month old rzilla just quit on me...the bulb actualy became detatched from the screw. This explains the rocking motion I've been seeing as I slide the lid, obvuosly been that way for a while. Does this brand have this issue alot or do all of them have the detaching problem?

What brand of basking bulb should I get then? I have a separate ubv so I only need one for light/heat.

nbody has any experienced with brands of socket detaching heat bulbs? He's got half the heat he's used to (standard 150 matt house bulb) so I'd like to get a new one right away after work tonight...

Hi, I just spotted this thread, sorry that no-one had responded to you. The brand of basking bulb really isn't as important as brand & type of UVB. It's fine to use a standard household light bulb or even a flood light as long as you get the correct temps. I've never had a bulb separate from the socket though.

just to be safe I bought a slightly more expensive one (not going to quibble of a buck) from a different brand and it's a tight beam bulb so it will concentrate more on the area I want it, which will produce higer temps. He seems to move around a bit more on his branch which I'm told is a good indicator that he has enough heat. Hopefully this one wont separate. I also plan on getting stands to hang the lamps so they don't ride on the sliding screen top and get jiggled or knocked into the cage but not from the pet stores they want 30 bucks a peice for simple metal stands. I'll try menards or something first.

I bought the Zilla Bearded Dragon starter kit from Petco. The 3 lights that it came with were a piece of crap. A few days after we set it up I found the basking light off and when I looked it had exploded and there was a piece of glass missing from the bulb. Well I went to the store and bought another. The day after that the stupid bulb had exploded so bad that I even had glass in my beeardie's tank and all over the floor. I was really angry and wrote Zilla an e-mail letting them know how much their product sucked (never heard back from them though). The bulb was the 150 watt Daylight Blue Bulb. After that we changed to the Zoo Med Basking Spot light 75 watt. I don't know which one you have but this was my experience with Zilla. I have been changing my brand of bulbs little by little. I have had a lot of problems with the Zilla starter kit. Besides the lights...It came with the Alfalfa Bedding (the one I got came with a ton of little ants). The kit was missing the temperature and humidity guage. I wrote to them and they sent me the missing temperature and humidity guage. I swore never to buy Zilla again! The only Zilla product I use is the repti liner and even that is going to change when we build Samson a new viv because I am going to put tile.

what do you mean "tile"? The brand I got this time is an exo-terra 150w tight beam. I have a zilla uvb T5 20" that is any where froma few inches to a foot or so away from his basking spot depending on where he chooses to lay on his branch. The top nearest the uvb is not the hottest point as the light is a little off so the middle of the branch is the hottest this way he can go up to get the max uv if he wants without cooking. I'll probably change to reptisun or exoterra uvb if they make on in the 20" T5 otherwise I'll hafta go buy another fixture. I have no idea if this is the 5.0 or the 10.0 as the bulb came with it and didn't state one way or the other and it's noton the bulb. Either way one thing I do know is that it's not hurting him and he's getting vitamin supplements atleast once or twice a week just incase.

He's talking about floor tile. Most people use slate, but anything that isn't slick or glossy will do. It's super easy to clean and it also keeps your beardies nails short.

Here's mine right before I added the sealer.

Is that slate? I love it! I have to go shopping to look at what I want to get for the new viv but I haven't gotten around to it yet.

The good thing about an Infra red heat lamp is that you can tell it is working because you can see the light coming from it. It is also cheaper than the ceramic heat lamp. We started with this type of heat source but have now moved on to the ceramic heat lamp. From experience we found that the Infra red heat lamp is a bit of a hit and miss product. A bulb could last a year but its most likely to last a week or at most a few months. You have to be very careful when screwing it in as the bulb is fragile. Always keep a spare, but even with a spare check that it works as soon as you buy it as peace of mind that on the day you turn to your spare bulb it's going to work.

it wasn't the red one that failed, it was the daylight one that I use for the basking lamp that melted out of it's socket. The red one I have is working fine actualy.

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
is tape safe for fixing something in my leopard geckos hide?
Day 3 of brumation. It's a struggle. I really miss my little guy. 😔
