Have you tried a 75W bulb to see what kind of temps you get with that? Figuring out the temps is probably one of the most frustrating things in the beginning.
Before you go swtching out the bulbs... what type thermometer are you using to measure the temps? digital with wire and probe end, dial, stick-on type, temp gun?
Where exactly are you taking the temps in the tank?
If you are using a temp gun and/or a digital therm. w/probe and you are accurately getting temps directly from the basking spot, then I would suggest trying the 75W bulb. Sometimes you have to also play around with the basking platform(EX: lowering or raising) until you get the desired temps. You may also have to use a lower watt bulb in the coolend to raise the basking temps just a bit and get your coolside to the achieved temps.
Getting correct temps is much like an experiment. You just have to keep trying different watts, basking arrangements, etc... to get it right.
