Hi All!!!

Bit of advice please if anyone can help.
My Beardie Zora has not been to the loo now for over a week.
We have been battling with Coccidia for quite a while now with her.
She has been on medication last week and had a vets visit a week ago.
He seemed happy with her and she seems very healthy, but only goes to the loo once a week (but none this week) I have been giving her warm baths with no results
I am getting quite worried about her, she eats fine (although not many veggies for her age)
and is quite active out her cage.

Any help would be greatly appreciated
:)

Sorry your beardies having trouble :( .
A couple of questions might help us see if anything is wrong:
What do you feed your beardie?
What are the temps: basking, warm side, cool side?
What do you use to measure temps? (Digi w/ probe, stick-on, or temp gun)
What TYPE and BRAND of UVB do you use?

Hi

She gets fed black crickets & locusts.
For veg she has rocket, kale, carrott, broccoli, peas and bits of fruit like strawberry or apple every now and again.
As per advice from the vet she only gets bugs every other day now as she is nearly fully grown, but veg everyday.
basking ranges from 94 - 100, cool side 80 - 84
I use 2 digital thermometers with probes, one at her basking spot and one and the cool end.
She has very minimal decoration in her cage with us trying to fight these parasites.
I use an strip uv, arcadia D3+ 12%
She only has paper as a substrate until we fight the parasites off.
Gave her a long bath tonight but still nothing. :(

You can try giving her either unsweetened applesauce or canned pumpkin(no sugar). Mix in a small drop or two of olive oil or mineral oil. You can use a dropper and drop a small amount on the tip of her nose to try and get her to take it. This will help lubricate things and hopefully she will go for you.

Let us know how she does.

Hello!

Yes do try the Pumpkin or Apple sauce mixed with a littel olive oil or Mineral oil. You can also give verious types of BB food in a BB med syringe, to get the poo going. Also, my I suggest that at bed time put her on your chest on a heating pad on med and cover her up and rub her back in a downward motion. I have gotten Judah to poo this way sever times when he has been blocked up. Watch out she may poo on you after a little while, which is what you want but its icky. I also reccomend that you invest in soem acidophiliz + or you can use Human Probiotics. You can find the Acidophliz at Beautifual Dragons, pet mountain or Reptile supply.com Human kind can be found in most health food stores. You woudl just open a capsule and put a small amount in the BB syring with BB food. This will help the coccida and while using the antibiotics help with tummy upsets.

Also, you want to get rid of the strip thermometer, those can be up to 10deg off. A digital thermometer is best. I dont know if your beardie hangs out alot in the cooler end of the tank, but this is why Judah was having problems digesting. I acctual block off his cave occasionally because he jsut loves hanging out in here, and it is only around 85 deg. so he digests slower.

Please check out http://www.Beautifuldragons.org for a list of foods..... Kale, Broccoli, peas, carrots And Arugula should be feed in moderation. Some of these are goitrogens and somethings like carrots and broccoli may cause some constipation. A good staple is Mustard/Collard, dandelion greens. I feed Judah a Baby Spring Mix or Herb bag salad mixed with one of the staple greens, its a good balance and variety, I just pick out the romain.

Thanks for all the advice will try those things!!
She only has carrots and broccoli occasionally and I use 2 digital thermometers, one on the hot side and one on the cool.
So thinking if these are not factors in could just be the meds affecting her, see how we get on this week then back to the vets again i think!!

Thanks everyone
:D

Oh good then. Sorry I read "strip uv" and thought strip thermometer. Yeah between the meds and coccidia it really throws off their digestive system. Also, I dont know what your night time temps are, but if they are lower at night say around in the 65-70 range if you up it a little at night to 75-78 it helps boost their immune system to help fight off the coccidia.

So tried her with some apple sauce & olive oil, she seemed to love it!!
I have not fed her the past couple of days (bugs that is!) to try to start her eating veg and that has worked!!!
She ate some this morn so v.happy bout that.
But alas still no poop  !!!

My husband is giving her another bath today and some more apple, is there anything else i can try???
Or should I call the vets its nearly been 2 weeks!

Oh and my night temps are in the 70's apart from in winter but we use a ceramic heat bulb at nights then to keep temps up. Do you think keeping the temps higher will help her out.

Thanks :)

As long as there isn't something that she could have eatten like sand or too large of food, you can wait a few more days to let nature take its course. If she doenst poo in 3 more days time to take a trip to the vet. During this time it is best to cut out hard to digest food liek crickets and other feeders. Just stick with the baby food for a few days till she poos. This is very important and if you get a bunch of BB food please dont worry that she is not gettign enough to eat, putting too much food in the belly will only make it worse. You can pick up some BB food squash or peas or one with chicken or turkey. Just make sure they dont have cereal in it, I have found there are ones with brown rice are ok. IF you do the Chicken/Turkey you will need to cut it 1/4 chicken to 1/2 veggi like squash. Too much of those two will stop her up more because of the protine continent. (I think i said this before?) I also mixed mine with the Probiotic this helps them regulate the digestive system, believe me it works. This can be found in cultured soy yogurt as well if you hav etroubles find the pill form. NO DAIRY, SOY ONLY.

HAve you tried puttign her on a heating pad on your chest at bed time and rubbing her back in a downward motion for a few hours? This is really an important step, that really seems to help. I deff think you should raise the night time temp about 5 deg for the time she is ill. I have read many things that say raising the night time temp about 5 deg (from 70's) helps boost their immune system. I think it is because it takes alot of energy for them to get warmed up in the morning and get going, and if they have a week immune system it can cause slow progress to good health. And heat on the belly during times of constipation and coccida is really important. FYI this is the only time heat on the belly is a good thing. So If you go to Rite Aid or wall greens they have a cheep packs call Body Heat in a pack of 3 or 4. They are like Therma Care but cheeper. They come in a perfect size. ( I think you said yur in the UK? I hope they have somthing liek this there?) I dont reccomend using a reg heating pad over night as it coudl cause burns. If you can find these, take one out and double up a wash cloth to cover it and lay her on it when she is sleeping. Check the heat pad every once in a while to make sure it is not too hot on her belly if it gets too warm add anouther wash cloth. You really dont want it any hotter than 85 under her belly. Do this after you do the massage on your chest with a reg heating pad for a few hours. I have done this methiod for Judah several times and soemtimes if takes a few days of all the above and he finally poos. And you can just tell he is so releved.

My guy just loves hanging out in the cooler ranges of his Viv, and unfortunately this causes food not to digest all that well. He use to get stoped up all the time, but he's never had coccida fortunately. I finally figured out what the problem was and made his set up so that he is hanging out in at least 90 deg temps most of the time. Otherwise he would hang out in the 80-83 deg range all the time. Silly guy dodnt you know your a desert dragon. :D Anyways, I have alot of experance with a dragon that just wont poo.

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
is tape safe for fixing something in my leopard geckos hide?
