    Hello from New Zealand

I made a hide out of the offcuts and left over tiles from the base, and he seems to like it. But I think he will outgrow it pretty quickly with his summer growth spurt so I will have to make something else soon. Sir Ed has started to get more active and eating again after not eating much at all...

    Hello from New Zealand

I'm in Auckland. The room temperature will make a big difference, so you just have to get a good digital thermometer and monitor it. I got one that shows the temp at both the basking spot and the cool end of the enclosure. It took a bit of trial and error with different bulbs to get a range I...

    Hello from New Zealand

I have got a 150W CHE on a thermostat, that comes on if the temps drop to low over night, which is pretty much every night over winter. You won't need it in summer, in fact the 100W floodlight might be too hot, but I'd plan to get a CHE before next winter.

    Feeding my 3 month old

Our 3 month old will only eat salad when he thinks nobody is watching. Every now and then I catch him munching on some greens, but he always tries to deny it, and tells me he was really chasing a cricket in his salad or something. It's all part of the ozzy tough guy image I'm sure. But...

    My new girl

That's a beautiful looking dragon! It does look a lot older than 4 months to my admittedly very inexperienced eyes though.

    Hello from New Zealand

Thanks Cooper. Sir Ed is settling in nicely. He is eating insects regularly, showing occasional interest in salad, pooping, and generally being active. He seems to enjoy being handled, and will often come right up to the glass and watch me intently until I take him out. He has been shedding...

    Hello from New Zealand

Well we picked up our 6 week old beardy from the breader today, and he seems pretty happy with his new home. He had a good explore before having a snooze on one of the pieces of driftwood. He tried unsuccessfully to climb the walls, and once shown where the basking spot was has been...

    Hello from New Zealand

I'm sorry I don't know if they are available online. I got them at my local hardware outlet, and I can't even find them on their website.

    Hello from New Zealand

I'll look into the dimmers thanks. Just wondering if it would be better to use a dimmer or keep the light consistent, and use a CHE on a thermostat to maintain a consistent temperature? I can't imagine why anyone would want to name anything they like after Paul Henry. There must be a story...

    Hello from New Zealand

Thanks for the comments The only parts retained from the original TV cabinet are the top, bottom, drawer, and the 2 upright dividers at the bottom (although these were cut down to fit under the new bottom of the enclosure part. The sides are completely new, made out of a 1800x600mm sheet of...

    Hello from New Zealand

Thanks cooper and ahbd. I'm really happy with the driftwood. I just want to trim it a bit so it sits more securely. As it is right now it may rock a bit if an adult dragon were to climb on it. I got the lights today. currently a 40W spot, 36" Reptile One UVB 10.0, and a small LED bulb to add...

    Hello from New Zealand

Progress report. Tonight I baked a log. Luckily we have a large oven, it bearly fit, in fact I had to trim it a little more than I planned. But it fits nicely in the vivarium, which I have finished painting.

    Hello from New Zealand

Thanks Tracie, i'll spend a bit extra on a decent fitting with a good reflector. I more or less finished the enclosure background last night, with 4 coats of clear satin acrylic. I'm planning to trim and bake the driftwood tonight, and will tackle the lighting, substrate, and other finishing...

    Hello from New Zealand

Thanks so much for your help. I think I will do as you suggest and get a Reptile One tube for starters, and then I will look into ordering one of the more recognised brands from overseas. I wonder how likely they would be to arrive in one piece if I ordered some form the US?

    Hello from New Zealand

Thanks CooperDragon. I am in Auckland, where there are lots of beaches with plenty of driftwood. Animates does have Arcadia tubes, but only the 6% ones. Is that enough UVB for a happy and healthy dragon? They seem to be clearing them out at the moment, and I suspect in the future they will only...

    Hello from New Zealand

Thanks. The background is a lot tougher than standard foam, and it will get a number of coats of non toxic acrylic once the painting is finished, so hopefully it will stand up to a bit of abuse. I have to say it is looking good with some dry brush detailing done. I have collected a bit of...
