Yes, it does kill parasites. Freeze between 1-2 weeks to insure all parasites have been killed. Most bacteria on the otherhand will not die.

Look for a hydroponic or indoor gardening store if your local Walmart does not have it. I have used both crystals and the watered, both equally nice. Be patient it can take a few tries keeping crickets.
