    beard turned black

Our dragon is about 7 months old, and has always seemed really healthy. This morning I put in crickets and superworms--he gobbled them up--but I noticed that his beard had turned black (I mean really black). What could this mean? I've never seen this happen; it has me freaked out...it's my...

    taking beardie outside...

we took him outside, set him in the grass, and there was a bird in the tree above us making a lot of noise. He looked up, then puffed out to twice his normal width, and blew up his beard. I'd never seen him do that before. Now I know why they're called bearded dragons. Is all this a sign...

Getting ready to put sand in with bearded dragon...

thanks; yeah, I love the idea of it being able to clean up easily. And it doesn't bug them, the fact that they won't be able to sink their claws into it when walking around?

thanks...and do the harnesses work pretty well? do they fight them a lot, or is it just a matter of getting them used to it?

Getting ready to put sand in with bearded dragon...

wow, thanks for all of that information. I'm glad I wrote to this forum. I was ready to get the sand this afternoon. I've been using that rough, brownish carpet (can't remember what it's called) that I got at the pet shop when we first brought him home. I'm guessing that's OK down the road...

    taking beardie outside...

Ours is 6-months old, and I'm wondering if we can take him outside in the backyard and let him run around a bit on the grass. I'm in Dallas, and, during the day, it gets to about 95-100 degrees. Thanks.

Getting ready to put sand in with bearded dragon...

Our bearded dragon is about 6 months old, and around 16 inches long. Is this too soon to use sand in his viv, or should I stick with that brown mat for a while longer. If I switch to sand, can I put in play sand that you'd get at a hardware store? Are there any issues I should know about...

how to clean my drift wood?

I've only ever done it once. I'm not sure why you'd need to do it again, but I guess you could do it once a year for good measure. Honestly, I don't think I will.

how to clean my drift wood?

when i've put logs or rocks in that I've found from outside, I've 'baked' them in the oven at about 200 degrees for 30 minutes. No bug'll survive that, and it'll kill off any bacteria/germs.

    logs in aguarium

Thanks; so baking a stick doesn't pose a fire hazard, eh?

    logs in aguarium

I was told that if you put rocks from the "outside" you should clean and bake (to kill germs, of course) them prior to putting them in with your bearded dragon. Could you put in a cool-looking stick, small limb, if you treated it in some way? Thanks

    Feeding for 2 month old

Just for clarification, did you feed him once a day? So he would eat about 25-30 per day? Thanks again.

    Feeding for 2 month old

great; thanks. So it doesn't sound like I'm feeding him too much; and, yes, I've noticed that about the lettuce.

That aside, does anybody have any thoughts about the amount of food I'm giving him? Thanks

    Feeding for 2 month old

We got a bearded dragon for our 10-year-old son for Christmas, and the family loves him (the dragon, not the son...although we like him too). Anyway, I was in Petsmart last night and told one of the workers (who works with the snakes, lizards, et al.) that our bearded dragon has just about...

buying bearded dragon for 10-year-old for x-mas

Well, santa brought my son the bearded dragon and he's very cool (the bearded dragon, not my son or santa--althought they're not bad). He's very fun and relaxing to sit and watch, his head movements are very mechanical, like a robot's. We're happy we got him. One question: the humidity in...

buying bearded dragon for 10-year-old for x-mas

thanks, I'll definitely do that. Do they take daily care, and, if so, how much (length) of time each day? Also, can you take them out and hold them? We have two cats, that's probably my biggest concern. Thanks.

buying bearded dragon for 10-year-old for x-mas

I have no idea how hard it is to take care of one of these. Do you think it's something a 10-year-old could handle? In other words, do they take a lot care? Are the pretty hearty? Any help and/or advice you could provide would be appreciated. Thanks!
