So....once I got Gilligan in his new home he decided he would poop everywhere.
I had no idea how difficult all the edges and nooks and crannies would mak cleaning....rethinking my setup.
My guesstimate is that that is a .75" polystyrene foam covered in i'm gonna guess sanded grout with a dye(don't know this part)
The carves are made with a knife before the grout is applied.
The foam itself is adhered/glued to the wood walls.(i used ge silicone i for this)
The shelf on the left...
Jim, before you take it out....post about it in the substrate or diy forum. To make sure.(it may very well be good)
The wood....this is tougher. I personally would slap on a few coats of minwax polycrylic, but you should ask about that in the same thread as above.
Sheds typically go in stages...
Melamine is a type of wood which is covered/sealed. Usually it is white. I ask because anyother type of wood needs to be sealed if it isn't already with a polyurethane.
The silica sand can be dangerous for beardies, especially if you feed them in the vivarium.
I personally would either replace...
Looks good to me. Melamine, basking spot and full length uvb lamp.
Is your diet good and are the basking temps good?
Is that all melamine? or are the sides different?
Sand is tricky with baby dragons, specific playsands are non-toxic and also small enough to pass through.
My guy poops all over his basking spot....and leaves the other 1,000 sq. in. untouched. When I get home there is always a new one or two or three pieces, right next to where he is laying.
I am no germaphobe by any means, maybe the opposite if anything.
But....I was questioning if water was sufficient for fesces. My dragon has plenty of room in his vivarium but i'm sure at some point he will walk across or lay on some of his own waste while i'm at work for the day.
Bump to this question of how to disinfect a dragon.
I imagine a regular water only bath is not sufficient on its own if the dragon has waste on him/her.
If you are still wondering:
Polystyrene foam(locally my options were .75" and 1.5"....I chose 1.5" and would again.
Grout or cement(i used quikrete with terra cotta quikrete dye for reddish color)
Polyurethane(i used and would highly reccomend minwax polycrylic-fast drying and little smell)
A...
Structure: Oak, Birch, Maple, Melamine
Interior-bottom: Tiles, Melamine slab, paper towels
Interior Walls: Just the wood, Tiles, Polystyrene foam(fake rock)
Remember to be patient and seal, seal ,seal.
You can check out my diy thread or others.
I used polystyrene foam pieces cut to the size i wanted. I glued them to the polystyrene i had covering the entire walls with silicone.
After setting the whole thing up and letting the ledges cure, I applied quikrete cement with terra cotta quikrete dye...
