Anyone have actual pictures of German Giants?

I have an old (2000 or so) copy of General Care and Maintenance of Bearded Dragons by Philippe de Vosjoli & Robert Mailloux, and it has a photo of a true GG. I unfortunately don't have a functional scanner, so I can't upload the pic, but I know the book is still in print.

What are your tips that make caring for your dragons easier

If you want to get the substrate off Phoenix Worms before you feed them to your beardie, you can just toss them in a small container of warm water--the substrate sinks and the PWs float, so you can just skim 'em off the top. Takes no time at all.

Why is he posturing at inanimate objects?

Yeah, me too. I can't justify the price, though, since I do already have the real thing at home. Plus I think George would be mad if I got one. He's cranky enough about having to share the bedroom with the cat. :)

Gas and Weird Poop/Bubble IN Poop

Yeah, I hear you about the rescue threads. Bless all who rescue beardies in need. I have fantasies about winning the lottery, quitting my job, and devoting myself to traveling from city to city rescuing all the neglected beardies listed on Craigslist. :) So is Odahviing still doing the...

    Question about vet's advice

@Tracie: I'm waiting eagerly for the serrapeptase--hopefully it'll be here tomorrow. He's had two recent fecal exams (floats and smear) which turned up nothing, and they were looking pretty hard for giardia based on his symptoms. The most recent one was sent off to the nearest vet school lab...

    Question about vet's advice

Hello! I've posted before about my 7 1/2-month-old beardie and his digestive issues (see http://www.beardeddragon.org/forums/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=169464) and the problem still hasn't cleared up. My own vet, who has lots of experience with reptiles but is not a specialist, consulted a herp...

Gas and Weird Poop/Bubble IN Poop

A tech at my vet's office told me that sometimes fruit can cause bloating and gas in beardies, so could some kind of fruit be the culprit here? Have you introduced anything new into her diet? My George recently had a round of gas in the bathtub (nothing as dramatic as Odahviing's, but he made...

Why is he posturing at inanimate objects?

Maybe you could order him a lady friend with a bit more substance. Check out http://weirdbuglady.deviantart.com/art/bearded-dragon-3-84596908. It could be like that movie Lars and the Real Girl, except with beardies. :)

    Albinism and Blindness

I've never had an albino herp, but I did once have a lilac-point Siamese cat, and she was plagued with all kinds of health problems her whole life, including poor eyesight. It was a long time ago, and I don't remember the whole complicated genetics lesson, but our vet basically told us that her...

Found this ALIEN in my beardies tank! WTF is it?

That is seriously creepy looking. I was already freaked out by superworms, and that did NOT help. *shudders

    Fluctuating Temps?

Rather than moving the whole tank, can you maybe put in another place for him to bask on the hot side of the tank? I was having the exact same problem you're having, so I reconfigured things in the tank and added another basking spot with a lower-wattage bulb with a shorter piece of driftwood...

    I'm pregnant. . . and she's not happy.

You may be right. It's not exactly the same thing, but there's ample evidence that iguanas can detect and respond to human women's hormone changes. (See http://www.anapsid.org/iguana/season.html) If iguanas can sense hormone changes, then it seems possible that beardies can, too.

    Which Solarmeter?

I've pretty much decided to get a Solarmeter so I can stop stressing so much about whether or not Georgie is getting sufficient UVB. (Yes, I am a neurotic beardie mama.) However, I've been reading stuff online for hours about Solarmeters, and I have no clear sense of whether I should get the 6.2...

    Nose color change?

It could definitely be the start of a shed. When my beardie's about to shed a section of skin, the section gets dull and turns just slightly pinky/peachish for a day or two and then turns into a whitish/grayish color before it starts flaking off.

    Screen and UVB

You might find the section on mesh tests on http://www.uvguide.co.uk/uvinnature.htm pretty informative. The bulb-through-mesh testing data is currently unavailable since they're working on updating the site, but I would imagine that the percentage of UVB filtered out via various materials stays...
