Sunray Metal Halide bulbs - noise?

I am using this bulb for a while but one thing bothers me. There is a slight high pitch humming sound coming from the bulb itself. It is barely audible but I notice it when I get near it. Has anyone else experienced this? Thanks

LED 65 watt floodlight (pic included)

As supplemental lighting there seems no reason this couldn't work. There are some good LEDs that have a very good color rating of around 6500K (bright daylight). I have a 6500K lamp and it is an awesome bright light. Best of luck to you.

    Vegetarian diet?

I am vegetrian and I would love it, but I don't think of Beardies as vegetarian by any means. Think of them as little piggies with scales. They eat anything that smells and looks good to them, which by design makes them omnivorous and is somewhat dangerous because they have no clue about...

Food Pellets as Primary Diet for Baby?

Variety is key. These pellets may be designed to have all the nutrients, but think about how quickly a person is bored with the same food over and over again. Bearded Dragons are very curious creatures and like/need variety. Although I do think these pellets are ok, please make sure to feed a...

A few ??s. My son is a new baby dragon owner

Sounds super exciting and congratulations! Food: look what they can't eat, everything else: variety is king (don't forget flowers)! I feed often a nice mix of the whole foods loose greens but any mix will do (don't worry too much about the occasional spinach leave). Important to mention is...

I need to examine all possibilities here...

Mine does that every year right after brumation and for us the best is to give her as much running opportunity as I can give her. After a while she calms down, just to start the same spiel a couple weeks later. Be happy she is active and it sounds like a healthy dragon.

NO ADV!!UPDATE: IS THIS NORMAL?! Purple beard, neck and tail

very interesting article. Thanks for posting it. "giving her one feeding every day and she would eat like 20-30 crickets. She's 1 year old." -- that seems a lot. As the article describes as well, in the wild they are moving all the time to get food, thereby burning fat/sugars for energy...

Black discoloration around nose and mouth.

Not sure how severe it is but it may be best to check in with a vet. Here is an article: http://www.petmd.com/reptile/conditions/mouth/c_rp_infectious_stomatitis As to the dark spots, mine gets them too every now and then, I noticed when mine is exploring tight spots she seems to get that on...

    Are locusts a good staple?

It's a staple in Germany for sure. I think you can't get them in the US.

    Crickets

Be careful about "just feed them till they're full", if you do this you will most likely end up with an oversized obese dragon that is prone to fatty liver disease, goiter and other ailments (Vet bills don't come cheap). I think 20% protein to 80% veggies is better for an adult. There is no...

    Can O'

I use them all the time and my Dragon grew like crazy. However, I do hand-feed them via chop sticks and she is really crazy for them. They are actually not cooked in oils as far as I can see from the packaging but in their own juices. You want to watch out to keep all other foods diverse...

    Under tank heater

I would be concerned to have just glass between your beardie and the heater. Since you already bought the under tank heater, I'd use a timer with it and also put some ceramic tile on the place over the heater. The tile will absorb the heat, store and distribute it a bit more. If you time the...

    BRUMATION ANY INFO PLEASE!

Mine just woke up after 3 month sleeping, now she is full of energy and hyperactive, very fun to watch. During brumation I always had a light on for 6 hours but no heat while she was in her dark cave. Make sure your dragon stays hydrated, either by spraying gently with water every now and then...

    post-brumation behavior

2 Weeks ago my female leatherback BD (roughly 15 month old) woke from a 3 month brumation and her energy level is sky rocketing. Constantly searching in and out of the terrarium, pacing, snooping about and being curious about everything. Actually quiet fun to watch and experience. She is not...
