    Cameron's Digs

This is Cameron. We picked her up about two months ago. She was about 6 weeks old and 5.5" long when we got here. She is now about 3 1/2 months old and 12" long. Has a great appetite for Dubias and escarole. She is in a 75 gallon Tetra tank with sliding front doors. The inside of the tank has...

    Cameron

Cam has doubled in length and is getting quite a bit thicker. Colors are a little less green after this last shed, more of a golden yellow and orange this time. About 3 months old now and 11 inches. They do grow fast.

Custom Bearded Dragon Wooden Enclosure Questions!!!

The plywood at Lowes/Homedepot is pretty cheap stuff. The veneer chips and flakes off easily. Melamine and particle board are not very durable, and can easily break during assemble without pre-drilling and careful assembly. Quality birch, maple, or oak plywood can be purchased at a real...

    Backyard Rock for basking

Hot water, a scrub brush, and bleach. Give them a good scrub and thorough rinse, be sure to get all the bleach residue off.

    Sand substrate

You could also use natural slate tiles, they have plenty of texture, so no slipping.

    Cameron

4 weeks and 3 inches later, Cameron seems to be doing very well. Great appetite, poops daily, and seems to enjoy getting attention from us.

    Lighting Help for Newbies (:

The one you have is fine. It is difficult to find a bulb in that spectrum that does not have some kind of coating on it. I and many others here use bright white halogen flood lights, par30 or par38 size.(available at home depot or lowes). They are usually around 2900k and work great.

Ceramic Heat Emitters Make Me Nervous.

I'm not a fan of them either for just that reason. I went with the Mega-Ray heat projector. Creates plenty of heat to keep my 75g at 68f overnight, and never goes over 120f itself. http://www.reptileuv.com/shop/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=75&products_id=196

    Dubia Colony Ventilation?

I just started a colony about 2 weeks ago. The current bin has a screen opening about 6x18. Plenty of ventilation, but tough to get a warmer temperature in the garage. I picked up another tub and put this vent on and added window screen on the inside. Will this be enough ventilation? Or should I...

    Plywood Reptile Enclosure

Plywood is great. Easier to work with than melamine, and more durable. Be sure to use a hardwood plywood, like oak, maple, or birch. Pine, fir, cedar, etc fumes are toxic to beardies.

    Cameron

I have been setting up a tank and getting the stand and canopy ready for the last couple of weeks. I wasn't really ready for a beardie just yet. The wife and kids went to petco the other day while I was at work and decided to "surprise" me. I had planned on building my own basking area and other...
