    Going to stores

Amen to that. I'm looking forward to the summer - I plan to build a hutch and let him bask in the yard in safety and natural sunlight. I can't wait.

    Snow Storm

I believe heat is more important than UVB for digestion. As long as he's at a reasonably warm temperature he should be able to digest. If he's too cool he'll probably just sleep and won't have an appetite. If he doesn't eat for a couple days he'll be fine.

    Going to stores

I have not personally done this. Some stores might not like you bringing your dragon inside. Petco or Petsmart would probably be okay with it, but others may ask you to leave.

    Snow Storm

I didn't know you were a Western New Yorker, Coop. I did a lot of my growing up in Rochester, and then did my graduate studies in Buffalo. And now I live in Maine. So I feel your pain! Sounds like you've got a good plan. A combination of the handwarmers and towel trick, and/or your own...

Danger of MBD during brumation in the dark?

Thanks for the reply, AHBD - that's good to know! I think I'll turn his lights off then, since he's not taking advantage of them anyway.

Danger of MBD during brumation in the dark?

Our approximately 13 month old adult dragon, Nova, has been brumating for a couple weeks now. I think he had been trying to brumate for a lot longer than that since he stopped eating for weeks and hid under things, but we kept force feeding him, took him to the vet, got bloodwork done (normal)...

    Programmable dimmer lighting?

Thanks for the suggestions, Tater. Looks like the Herpstat 1 Basic will do what I want at a price point I can work with. I didn't know the UV lights couldn't be dimmed, but it makes sense. Like you said, I could just have it turn on a timer. Thanks for weighing in! It's probably not needed...

    Programmable dimmer lighting?

I've been looking into a way to make Nova's lighting cycle as natural as possible. I'd like to not only automate when they turn on and off (I have a timer that turns them on/off at sunrise/sunset, or specified times) - but also to gradually brighten and dim the lights over the course of the...

Fatty liver disease, milk thistle dosage?

LOL if I've learned anything from owning a beardie, it's that it's best not to negotiate with terrorists. I'm glad to hear that fatty liver can be reversed if not too far advanced. I'm hopeful he isn't too far gone, since he does still move around, bask, and make vigorous prison...

Fatty liver disease, milk thistle dosage?

Sounds like your little guy is on a good, varied diet - and yeah, he may be a bit picky. Don't let that little tyrant run the show! My mistake was feeding our guy supers as a staple for about two months - as much as 5-10 every day. :? I'm really hoping we didn't do too much permanent...

Fatty liver disease, milk thistle dosage?

I see. I think I'll also try a few drops morning and night to help him along. I can't tell if it's affecting his appetite, since he's already off food. Interesting that super worms may have been the culprit for you - I suspect that's what got Nova into trouble as well. What feeders did you...

Fatty liver disease, milk thistle dosage?

I actually had one more question, Tater, if you can recall: how many times a day did you administer the extract? Once, twice? My vet didn't prescribe it (though he said it won't hurt and to give 3-4 drops) so I don't know how often to administer. So far I've been doing it once a day, but if I...

Fatty liver disease, milk thistle dosage?

Thanks - let's hope so. And bacon flavored? I may have to try some myself! :D

Fatty liver disease, milk thistle dosage?

I'm glad the Hepato-Support was able to help your beardie's liver! Hopefully it'll help Nova out as well. I did talk to the vet later today, and he suggested 3-4 drops of milk thistle. Not exactly precise, but I don't think it'll hurt him to have 4 drops. I gave him 4 this evening and (aside...
