tulip greens?

My almost 2 yr old guy won't eat any greens offered whatsoever, no fruits/veggies, etc. He's stuck on only eating his worms - all the different worms, still not interested in his crickets either.

We had him out in our garden the other day as it was nice & warm and he went nuts for the tulip leaves, just started eating them like crazy. We weren't sure if it was good for him or not so I pulled him away after a couple bites (we were in shock that he was eating them at all so it took us a minute to realize maybe that wasn't great for him?)... is it?
I thought maybe he'd appreciate his greens better if they looked like a "real" plant, so I put the whole parsley stems & leaves in a small pot (clean, no dirt) so that he could "hunt" them but he wasn't fooled...

So we're wondering, what natural plants/flowers are healthy for him to eat that we could grow at home - dandelion I know for sure, I'm going to grow a bunch of that in a rubbermaid container and let him loose in it each morning to let him "hunt" his greens, but what else could I grow that he could eat too? I was told that any petal flower's leaves were good for him, but what about any other green plants we have in our home? Is there a toxic plant list for dragons? I think wandering jews are no good, but what about a spider plant or something like that? Can I make a little indoor greenhouse/garden for him and let him wander through it picking out his own greens that way? I don't know any other way to get him to eat them and I'm concerned that he's not eating a balanced diet although he's packing on the weight finally and he's eating his worms and drinking in his baths all the time.

Any ideas on how I can find out what plants are great/ok/bad? Is it a good idea to make a dandelion jungle that he can go in? We don't have any grass on our property (deck and patio only) so I have to grow it in containers which is not a big deal, we've got lots of empty aquariums I could use too. But I'd love to know what I can grow and what do you think I could grow year round indoors? We're in Ontario, Canada.

Thanks so much!!

I just started seeds inside for my beardies. I am growing mustard greens and turnips (for the turnip greens) I started the seeds all in one containter until they got .75 of an inch. then i separated each sprout out and put them in flats for easier transplanting outside. while they are inside i put them under a florescent light and water every day (carefully!)

Well Pansies were on sale at the corner garden center so I picked up a bunch of them yesterday.... I've got a little strip of garden out front so I'll fill that with my 100 pansies, lol (big sale, :D) and maybe get one of those little garden edging fences so that I can let Crack loose in the garden safely...

People are going to think I'm weird basing my garden on what my pet can eat, haha!!

Thanks for that info! Now to figure out what I can grow indoors only year round... I need a greenhouse on my deck, that would be the best thing... hmmm...

Rose Petals are also safe for him to eat, as long as you don't spray them with anything like a pesticide or some sort of fertilizer or chemical.

The flowers from a Rose of Sharon bush/tree are also safe, as they are a member of the hibuscus family of plants.

Tulip leaves may not be on the safe list of plants, but its probably impossible to have a list that covers everything....

Did he show any ill effects after he ate them? If he ate quite a few, and he didn't, then they're most likely harmless, and won't hurt him.

I had a Golden Retriever puppy once who dug up all my tulip bulbs and ate them, and he was fine, except for his hurt feeling when I scolded him for it, which was more than I could say for all my brand new, freshly planted tulips! LOL Another one of my adult Goldens used to bite the flowers off all the red ones and eat them, and he was fine too, so I would guess that there's nothing toxic in them that would hurt him, but that's just a guess, since reptiles are quite different than dogs.

I would go the the Beautiful Dragons website, and check the list of plants that are harmful to bearded dragons. Veronica, who owns the site, is very thorough, so if tulips aren't mentioned on the harmful list, then they are probably fine for him to eat.

However, one thing that I do want to mention, as far as allowing him to "hunt" his greens on his own, is that letting him do that is probably not a good idea. Take note of what he likes, and take it inside the wash it and look it over first. Fireflies (lightning bugs) will sometimes hide out in grass and other foliage during the daytime hours, and if he should eat one of those, it will kill him within minutes, as they are extremely toxic to bearded dragons! When I give my beardies anything from my yard, I always wash it and look it over first, to make sure that nothing is lurking in the the greens that might present a health risk for him, even though the greens themselves do not.

Better to be safe than sorry!

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
