Okay, I feel like I ask one dumb question at a time. I went to buy water crystals at the hardware store, and it didn't seem much cheaper than Flukers. Do I add water to the crystals once I put them in the dish to expand, or do I simply place the crystals in there as is? The crystals look small.

Many thanks to a new feeder breeder. (Not really, just trying to keep the bulk order alive.)

Take 5-6 table spoons full of the crystals into a gallon milk jug and add water but leave a little air pocket at the top for expansion. It will take a few hours for them to soak up the water. If it is to watery then add a few more. And don't forget to shake it well. :wink:

you can also just add a pinch of crystals to a glass of water and leave it for a few hours. Then just repeat that whenever you want to add new ones.

or 1 level teaspoon & 1 cup of water. I have a few red beer pong cups lined up and the ratio works great for me.

Now more awake and see another flaw:

Buying them at a hardware store will likely get you a more expensive price. Consider internet sources.

Also a big diff between flukers and norm, is after your critters are finished with crystals, you can recycle them.... Flukers I believe has to be repurchased. Im sure if this is incorrect someone will correct me :)

I mixed some up for the first time yesterday. Gave me a shock how little was required for about a pint. I made it up with tap water though, is fluoride OK for roaches, and do they metabolise it before you feed them to your pets? I only put bottled water in the beardies vivariums, even though they've never ever touched it.

a little goes a long way to watch out! dont be like me! I have my bathroom sink literally over flowing with water crystals haha....i could have filled maybe 2 and a half normal size mayonaise jars!. buying from a store is cheaper anyways. I bought a 12oz packet from home depot for 7$.. with online you need to pay shipping. and 12 oz will last me maybe 2 years lol.

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
