History. February 3, 2016. Baycox...coccidia; fenbendazole..pinworms and ceftazidime injections for bacterial infection were prescribed. Baycox 3 days on. Stop. Continued another 3 days in two weeks. Fenbendazole daily for 5 days. Antibiotic injections every 3rd day for total of 10 injections. Meds completed.

Little Dragon's poo starting to smell again so I dropped off a fecal to my local vet. Waiting on results this afternoon. I am still using benebac daily and syringe feeding Repashy Grub Pie. Added some hornworms today. He won't eat dubias unless I shove them in his mouth.

Temps. 84 cool; 108 basking; t5

No. Local vet said there was bacteria in the poo and said she wants to treat for the bacteria. I have called the exotic vet who originally prescribed the meds in February and told his office what the local vet said. I had to leave a message but I asked, via message, if we needed to culture it.

Just left local vet. Moderate coccidea level and spirochetes. Flagyl to be given every 3 days for a total of 7 days. O.1 cc by mouth.

His poo was perfect last week. I was hoping it was the veggies I gave him over last weekend and this past Monday. I haven't given him veggies since Monday, March 7, wanted to rule them out as the culprit before I got the vet involved. The local vet said the Flagyl works on cocidea and spirochetes (still not sure what they are).

I try to keep his cage as clean as possible, as well as Daisy's cage. I use paper towels as substrate for him. He poos in the morning so I am home to clean it up right time it happens. I totally change out all.paper towels, not just the one pooped on, and spot wipe with chlorhexidine gluconate or f10sc. Because the paper towels are white I can see if he has tracked his poo anywhere. If I even see what I think to be a hint of a trace of poo anywhere near his basking branch, I take the branch out and spray it down with chlorhexidine gluconate and wipe with a clean paper towel to see if there are poo flecks on the paper towel and then spray the branch down with f10 and let it sit for 20 minutes.

I wonder if the Baycox first given in February didn't work that we'll on his coccidia, unless he had a really heavy load. The exotic vet said he was "a very sick dragon".

Not really pleased with the exotic vet's office not returning my calls. I called Wednesday to let them know poo was smelly and looking less well formed and was told someone would call me back. I did a follow up call Thursday and was told that someone would call me back that day. Nothing. I called again today to get confirmation of what Little Dragon weighted in February and called back to let them know what local vet found and to ask if I needed to get a culture done since this would be round two of antibiotics. Once again I was told someone would call me back. Nothing.

Dr.'s + vets can drive you crazy sometimes waiting on them to return calls + schedule appts. in a reasonable period of time. And it is likely that she had some coccidia left from the heavy load. It shouldn't be too hard to handle, and some dragons do just fine with a small amount of parasites.

The exotic vet's office was open today but still no call back about doing a culture, if one was needed, or if I should do another round of Baycox or use the Flagyl local vet prescribed. I knew they weren't going to call back so I went ahead and gave Little Dragon his first dose of Flagyl on Friday evening. Today he had his Repashy Bug Grub slurry and veggies dusted with bee pollen and two small hornworms. I accidentally left the half of the bee pollen capsule casing in his salad and I'm pretty sure he ate it. Oops. Hopefully a lizard can't OD on bee pollen.

I received a call back from the exotic vet on March 14. I told them the local vet prescribed Flagyl for moderate coccidia and spirochetes. I had already stared the Flagyl treatment when they called me. The vet said to use the Flagyl for the spirochetes but do another round of Baycox while treating with Flagyl. Everything I can find online says that Flagyl is an acceptable treatment for coccidia. I am leary of giving both Flagy and Baycox at the same time. Any thoughts?

I went ahead and gave Little Dragon his second round, first dose of Baycox on March 16. He had his second dose of Baycox this morning, March 17. Tomorrow will be this third does and then repeat three day dosing in two weeks and that will complete round two of coccidia treatment. He is still on Flagyl and due for his third dose on March 18. This will be the third dose out of a total of seven doses spaced apart every three days.

This is his poo from today.

He is still being syringe fed Repashy Grub Pie with daily dose of benebac. He ate two butterworms today but will not touch his dubias. I have a salad of collards, squash, carrot, turnip greens and kale. He some salad yeterday.

I gave Little Dragon a hornworm yesterday in addition to his Grub Pie and salad and benebac probiotics. His poo this morning, March 19, was looser than the one in the picture from a previous post. He is due for his fourth dose, out of seven, of Flagyl on Sunday, March 20. I bought some raw manuka honey this evening and I gave him some before his bedtime, not diluted with water.

I like it and he likes it too. It's something that I will keep on hand. I am going to use it as a dressing on the salads from time to time. Right now I'm syringe feeding it. I tried to make it like moist pellets but it dries out really fast in cage.

Gave fourth dose of Flagyl today. Did a complete cage clean out with f10sc.

Morning poop was brown and had good form. Little Dragon did a second poop this afternoon, very small with soft white urite and clear liquid a diameter of about three inches aroind the poo. He usually only poos once. I'm hoping the second poo was the result of too much wager in the slurry.

He was given the Grub Pie slurry for breakfast, with raw manuka honey.

Gave Flagyl in the afternoon and then he ate a piece of carrot, a bite of collards, one-fourth of a blueberry and two butterworms.

Next dose of Flagyl is Wednesday, March 23. The second part of the second round of Baycox for coccidia will begin March 30.

Gave seventh and final dose of Flagyl. Part 2 of Round 2 of Baycox starts Wednesday (tomorrow) and goes for three days.

Poo for the past two days has been greenish, not brown as in the earlier picture, with a mild smell. Poo is moist and looks to have a slimy coating. Fluid around poo varies. Urate is solid, glistening white.

I have not given the Grub Pie slurry in a couple of days. He has eaten veggies, National Geographic moist pellets, and canned crickets fot the past two days. I went to Petco to buy dubias but they were out. I'll have to order. I'll start back with the slurry mix (or might try making the Grub Pie in cubes) tomorrow. I'll also start back with probiotics. I had stopped giving them for a few days because Benebac, IMO, is too high in sugar for extended use. Did give him some human grade probiotics a few days and he seemed to tolerate.

My decision to try human grade probiotics was based on a study (involving turtles I think) that used some of the same bacteria strains in the probiotics that I take. The study did a comparison of single strain probiotics and multistrain probiotics. The multistrain came out better than single strain. Study showed multiple strains worked better than a single strain and that is why I didn't order Accidepolis a (mispelled). I.may look into Nutriclbac or Young Again Digestive Support (a vet bogged about how she used it for her patients from dogs to exotics)

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
